Case Study Of Swine Flu

Caroline Said:

Controversial Scientific case study for GCSE.?

We Answered:

patents in biology and pharma; gene patenting

genetic engineering, GMO

animal testing

the TeGenero clinical trial disaster

South Africa's stance on HIV (their president thinks AIDS is not caused by HIV)

Stacey Said:

Is the demand to close the Mexican Borders because of the swine flu, merely a Political Stance...?

We Answered:

Yes this seems like a very poorly constructed plan. I think lack of education on the virus may be an issue. How exactly is closing the mexican border going to stop the virus if it is many other nations heck the Philippines had an outbreak in 2007. Like cutting off trade with African nations because many of them have Cholera outbreaks.

Raymond Said:

Why does the CDC not keep record of all swine flu cases, only hospitalizations?

We Answered:

You need to go back and read that article again.

Your cited page specifically says:
"From April 15, 2009 to July 24, 2009, states reported a total of 43,771 confirmed and probable cases of novel influenza A (H1N1) infection. Of these cases reported, 5,011 people were hospitalized and 302 people died."

They DID count people who were not hospitalized. Thirty eight thousand seven hundred sixty people were NOT hospitalized.

The thing that is dangerous about this flu, as opposed to the "regular" flu, is its pandemic nature. It is highly contagious, infectious, is striking ages that the 'regular' flu does not, and it has moved so fast there wasn't a vaccine during that first three months.

Also, because it is affecting/infecting those not normally considered at risk for the flu, i.e. people between 20 and 45.

With 302 deaths out of only 43,771 confirmed cases the mortality rate is 0.69% which rounds to 1%. THE MILLION IS NOT PART OF THIS EQUATION.

Now that they have confirmed that it is pandemic there is no need to continue tracking individual cases.

Why do you stir up confusion in the street with misinterpreted facts? AND keep it up.

Alexander Said:

do i have swine flu???freaking out?

We Answered:

no.

Brent Said:

Help please! How would i do a case study on swine flu (h1n1)?

We Answered:

Where do you plan on finding the kids to question about this? Just gonna go to some elementary school and say "hi i'm doing a study on whether or not this topic scares the kids"? Teachers/parents aren't going to like the sound of that, especially if you don't even know what you're doing (aka trying to find someone else on Y!answers to set up the experiment for you)

Edit: well, since i have "little kids" of my own, i'm just saying i wouldn't want someone questioning them about something that's been widely reported all over the news as an "epidemic that kills children which were otherwise healthy beforehand", and you are then going to try and "measure their fear"? especially when you don't have any facts to back it up or the ability to quell their fears after bringing it up. Not to mention you don't even know where to begin with the "experiment" let alone what you're doing at all, or the effect it may have on them. Did you ever think maybe its not a good idea to test kids fear? That their parents or teachers aren't going to like that very much? You may think my opinion is "stupid" but its obvious you don't know a damn thing about kids, and you need to come up with a different "case study" right now.

PS: wouldn't the rate of fear in children be higher amongst those who knew a friend or classmate that has died from swine flu? Regardless of age, wouldn't that thwart your numbers?

Theodore Said:

????2 hours ago AP posted SWINE FLU cases in the US may have reached 1 million,?

We Answered:

Thanks for the info. Also, every Friday, you can get the updated number of confirmed cases in the U.S. (Confirmed is always going to be a lot less than actual, because most people with swine flu are never tested). http://cdc.gov/h1n1flu/update.htm

I and one of my kids have had swine flu already. But even if we hadn't, we still wouldn't get the vaccine. We don't vaccinate at all. Oh, and we didn't take Tamiflu.

Charlie Said:

o.o Can you DIE from the swine flu?

We Answered:

You'll probably be fine. Most people who die from swine flu have other, underlying medical conditions that would make them more vulnerable to death from it.

Two of my friends had swine flu. Neither of them received hospital treatment and both are perfectly healthy now. It just went away after about a week.
