Brenda Said:

How do I do sellection of case without sampling frame in a population based case-control study?

We Answered:

You will be doing just a random selection, take the results as they come, some call it a general case study.

Albert Said:

how to calculate sample size in a case control study when we have noting before?

We Answered:

I really don't think this is what you are looking for, but I don't quite understand what you are saying....so look it over, I hope it helps...if not, sorry.

Margin of Error = Critical Value * SE

You choose the margin of error based upon how confident you want to be. 95% is a good level of confidence...so your ME would be .05

The critical value comes from the ME, so for 95% it would be 1.96.....

SE is the Standard Error, which is S / square root of "N"

S is the Standard deviation for the population...I don't know how you would calculate this without knowing anything, so estimate....

and N is the variable that represents Sample Size.

So,

.05 = 1.96 * (S/ square root of N)

Case Study?

We Answered:

After someone ingests a sufficient quantity of E. coli O157:H7, the bacteria travels through the stomach and small intestine, and then attaches itself to the inside surface of the large intestine and causes inflammation of the intestinal wall. This inflammatory reaction is caused by toxins secreted by the bacteria, and is believed to be the cause of hemorrhagic colitis...
Diagnosis:
Infection with E. coli O157:H7 is usually confirmed by detecting the bacterium in the stool of the infected individual. Most hospital labs and physicians know to test for this particular bacterium, especially if the potentially infected individual has bloody diarrhea. Still, it remains a good idea to specifically request that a stool specimen be tested with Sorbitol MacConkey (SMAC) Agar for the presence of E. coli O157:H7.
In addition, E. coli O157:H7 is now commonly “fingerprinted”. When a sample is taken from either a piece of meat or poultry that is contaminated with a dangerous form of bacteria, such as E. coli O157:H7, listeria, or campylobacter, it can be cultured to obtain and identify the bacterial isolate...

The older brother may not have consumed the same infected food and young children and the elderly are generally hit harder.

I am looking for a sample business case to use for my study?

We Answered:

I would study the Coors Light brewing company, if I were you. A case contains 24 delicious, ice cold brewskies.

Or you could study Bad Boy Entertainment. I think they have a rapper named Case.

Or your local police district. Watch them as they case a joint, looking for clues.

Good luck. What a fun project.
