How To Write A Case Study

Steven Said:

How do I write a case study??

We Answered:

It would be helpful to know which field of study this "case study" is for. There is a difference between a case study in Psychology and Law.

There are case studies which are used for illustrative or teaching purposes. I think these are common in the study of Law, where you may make up a situation with fictitious people to spur a classroom debate to fully explore the nuances of the matter.

There are case studies which are used as a segue for further research. Sigmund Freud's case studies on his actual patients were the basis of the development of his psychoanalysis. So, in these cases, the people are real.

Apparently, in the sciences, Case studies are being used much as they are with law... as a teaching tool to spur debate, Rather than a research methodology

How do I write a case study about a friend of mine?

We Answered:

Since real case studies take several decades and cost a ton of money, i am sure that whatever you will end up doing will be inadequate. Although that isn't your fault. Sounds like your teacher doesn't know jack **** about psychology.

I guess i would just do some interviews, get a little biography written up and compare your friend's past to who he/she is today and see how past actions, behaviors, important events have shaped this person into what they are today.
