It is truly frightening that people would deny or ignore something as serious as this because they disagree politically about solutions. I don't understand why they can't just say "Look, I understand that everything in the ocean is dying, but cheap gasoline is simply more important to me." That's easy enough. Why go to such lengths to say "Pollution doesn't exist."
