I have just the book to read. Economic Facts and Fallacies by Thomas Sowell. While it's focus is economics, it provides massive examples of policies which are based on goofy beliefs, which also, by coincidence drives major policy decisions in this country, and others. Those in turn generate results that are opposite to the stated objectives that are sought. And the outcomes are incredibly wrong and horribly expensive to society.I think it may be helpful.
