Obesity Case Study

Seth Said:

what was this famous sociology experiment?

We Answered:

You indeed have the correct name. One article was published in Harper's Magazine in 1977 by author Jack McCLintock: http://harpers.org/archive/1977/03/00226… I think you have to pay for access for this on-line, but might be able to get it free through a library.

I hope that helps.

Lillian Said:

In the Age of Obesity (like the Age of Aquarius), do you worry about weight loss?

We Answered:

I wouldn't worrie about losing weight but I feel strongly that watching what we eat is important to our health remember food has changed alot in the last 100 years and 200 years ago sugar hadn't even been invented it isn't natural and is dangerous studies have shone it rots the body on the cell level from the inside out and helps spur on disease . It can become very painful . Remember it takes 2weeks for our tast buds to get used to eating healthy and it is so well worth it try fruit and if you need help getting it down at first try some powdered sugar fresh is best and after those first 2 weeks it tasts the best to

Amber Said:

Why is obesity NOT bad for your health?

We Answered:

It is called the obesity paradox.

Being overweight can actually help you in the long run. Weight itself is not a health problem, except in the most extreme cases (i.e., being underweight or so fat you’re immobilized). In fact, fat people live longer than thin people and are more likely to survive cardiac events, and some studies have shown that fat can protect against “infections, cancer, lung disease, heart disease, osteoporosis, anemia, high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis and type 2 diabetes.”

Accepting yourself as you are, no matter your weight, can actually improve your health in the long run. Body size is mainly genetic. No one knows how to make a naturally thin person fat any more than they know how to make a naturally fat person thin

Philip Said:

I need help with my A&P final. It is a case study and we have to diagnose the problem.?

We Answered:

she has a type III pressure ulcer on her foot. This could be due to loss of sensation in her foot. The loss of sensation is due to possibly having type II diabetes which results in numbness in bilateral feet and hands. The patient needs to see a MD regarding the ulcer on her foot. She probably needs to be taught awareness of the body parts that are numb. The patient should not do any rehab at this moment as to cause more bodily harm.

Esther Said:

A Researcher is conducting a study of kids...?

We Answered:

None of the above. The word would be 'skew the results' if you ask me. Possibly exacerbate, but it's a stretch.

Kyle Said:

should we be more worried about being underweight than overweight? - what do you think?

We Answered:

I think there are differnet ways to evaluate this question.

Many younger people have problems with anorexia or bulemia which can have severe health consequences in a short time period, so from that perspective, yes, this may be more immediately worrysome.

On the other hand, in the U.S. and many other western nations, obesity is rising at alarming rates, and while the consequences may not come as quickly, they can be severe: Diabetes, cardiobascular disease, and some cancers are all examples of things that are killing people in great numbers due to being over weight. In terms of numbers, there are many more people suffering from these than from underweight problems, so nationally, it is a bigger issue.

Leslie Said:

In my GCSE science case study i am researching about - is obesity caused by environmental or genetic factors?

We Answered:

I'm no expert, but In my experience obesity is caused by eating to much food.
