I am going for my associates degree in computer network systems thru ITT Tech, which is a two year degree in computer networking. pros of this is that its only two years, cons is that its a little bit more expensive, and just for computer networking ( they dont teach you the extra stuff like advanced programming and biology that you would learn in a college) with the advancement of networks across the country the average it admin makes around 60-70 grand a year after a few years at the job. My advice i would give you is pursue what you enjoy doing. Its the best advice I ever got and the most rewarding that I have taken.

1. Add more specific categories
Since it seems like certain categories cause the most problems. ex. Religion and spirituality. Make categories going out to specific religious practices. Someone from one religion asks a question about their religion, only to be "Corrected" by someone of another religion. Same with politics, culture and groups, and social sciences.
2. Get an intelligent monitoring system
The current one is monitored by a computer system, so many false reports are filed, most likely having a list of keywords most often used in violations. So, way too many false reports are made, relying on a report and certain words.
3. Clarify the rules
The rules really are vague.(Chatting, adult content, not a question or an answer, insulting other participants, solicitation, illegal content, and spam)
Chatting-Considered as making conversation on YA. It is twisted in a way to delete questions that ask for opinions, are polls or surveys(Even in the right category, containing the word 'you'.
Adult content-Considered as anything of a graphically innappropriate nature, or dirty.
Twisted in a way to contain anything about sex, despite the fact it not graphic(Natural family planning, sexual disorders, causes of specific functions). And many times, questions relating to subjects that have anything to do with sex, including dating, pregnancy, neighboring body systems(reproductive systems, urinary system, digestive system).
Not a Question or an answer-Supposed to mean exactly what it says. It is twisted in ways to Delete answers that did not answer the question in the way someone was not seeking for answers, or a question that someone did not find intelligent, resourceful, or helpful to everyone.
Insulting other participants-It is probably the least monitored offense, despite the fact that is the biggest problem on YA.
4. Find a way to do away with trolls, babies and extremist
They are different, but it can be hard to detect. What they have in common is they give users on YA hell (Report for stupid stuff, and send out useless offensive answers)
Troll-A person on YA who gives out rude answers, and makes false reports for the fun of making trouble. To a lesser extent, they can be seen as someone who makes stupid or controversial questions to irritate others.
Baby-A user who gets offended really easy, for whatever reason, and report and give offensive answers.
ex. Someone gets offended at a question about a religion, political offiliation, sexual orientation, parenting style, job/career philosophy, age difference, culture, backgroun. These babies give out offensive answers, or report them, cause they dont agree with the way others do stuff. A baby would see a question about African American culture as racist.
Extremist-Simular to the babies, only they have one subject they feel are absolutely right. But they are better at justifying their stance, and actions taking (Reporting and offensive answers). Usually try to back up their rude answers or reports because someone told them it was acceptable(Pastor, a parent, government leader, author, psychologist), their personal evidence or some book(Bible, Koran, Law book, self help book, ect.)
5. Keep it more open to diverse opinion.
The YA network as I have noticed lately, is a common occurence to bashing if you do not carry popular opinion. Some who do not carry popular opinion are reported and eventually suspended. So more people are Lying, and less people with diverse opinion are not using this site anymore.
6. Fix the Suggestion and feedback forum
The forum is supposed to be a place to make suggestions, comments, and report bugs to help improve the YA system.
This has no help at all. The forum is monitored by Yahoo's loyalist, who will not let anyone speak anything negative towards Yahoo answers.
They shut down any suggestions to ensure you more rights(as long as you do not interfere with other rights), but they want to see YA make more unfair rules.
Suggestions I've seen: To make reporting abuse more difficult. It gets bashed, and people go on to say that it should be easier to report abuse.
Get rid of polls and surveys. That gets 100 thumbs up. Plus, the one who suggested this was going on about how many hours he spent reporting in that section.
Plus, anytime you have a problem, the forum monitors want to blame you for the problem at hand. No help there.
So really, the people who hang around there have no clue whats going on. They think Yahoo is running just fine, and its normal users who corrupt it.
Plus, any suggestions pointing out YA flaws, it gets deleted, but rude comments dont get deleted.
7. Give us the right to delete answers we recieve to our questions. But there should be no option to delete answers from other questions. And the answerer should not be penalized. This is because That is the questioneers loss if they delete an answer. Plus, you dont have to make a report if you recieve an offensive answer

yes, I have done similar...give everythign you have and the end result is what appears to be failure....you at least know you gave all you had and hold your head high. I failed with what I really believed in and I look at it now and realize it was not my failure but a failure of the social system that was there to help.

Who said life as programmer is short?
In fact, most managers in the technical fields are technical managers. As such, go for the higher technical degree, you will have more options.

On the other hand, if you hate programming and more interested in moving up the corporate ladder then try MBA. Note that you are still going to be managing technical folks and to earn their respect you will need to speak their language.
