what are my chances of getting into college?

We Answered:

You are doing quite well. Keep it up.

Use the site below to determine your college chances by entering the name of each school and comparing your profile with those of the entering Freshmen. Also look at the section called a,mission and click on other factors. Use the school selection feature as well.

Good luck./

Will I ever go to College!?!?!!!?

We Answered:

You have three and a half semesters to bring up your grades to mostly A grades. You also should start getting coaching for the SAT/ACT. You can get a fine education at Umass if you apply yourself, but I am concerned that you will be among the approximately one-third of the applicants who do not gain admisstion.

I would not spend $20,000 a year on a school where my child was earning mostly C grades. I would have found a school which provided the necessary motivation and instruction for the student to earn better grades. Whoever is paying for your high school is not getting good value for the money.

Good luck.

Transfering from Cape Cod Community College... need help?

We Answered:

If you are going to transfer to a four year college then you only want to take your gen eds at the CC. And classes you take outside of your gen eds probably will not transfer over. You do not want to take any class in your major at a CC.
Each four year college is different- you need to go on their web site and check requirements for transfer students. Some colleges will let you transfer with as little as 12 credits. Make sure you know what GPA you must have.
If you know what four year college you want to go to you can talk to the admissions office and check and make sure the classes you take at your CC will transfer before signing up for them

How can i deal with culture shock? (college and homesick)?

We Answered:

Things like distance from home, culture of the school, the look and feel of a campus, and location are realistic things to consider when you're looking at colleges. They go to whether or not the school fits you. It's something you do need to consider.

That said, it is completely normal to be getting nervous at this point. It's a huge change. The stress you feel? That's actually normal.

My suggestion to you is for you to go to college, and see what you think. Give it a real chance. By the end of the term, you will know if it's right for you. And if it's not, don't be afraid to transfer to someplace that suits you better.

I went to college a place that was no where like where I was from. I was from an urban area in Mass., and I went to college in what felt to me to be the sticks. It does take some getting used to. There is a culture shock. But know that most of the freshmen there are going through some sort of "culture shock". They're *all* new, none of them have been to this school, most of them don't know anyone else there - so very strong bonds get formed. And that will really help.

So for right now, know that your feelings are normal. If you can, try not to think of this as an permanent, no-going-back change. Think only of first term. Not of four years. Of one semester. Try it for one semester. Give it a term. See how you feel. Then decide.
