Colleges In Florida

Harold Said:

Any experience with these colleges in Florida?

We Answered:

University of Florida Gainesville is, of course, the powerhouse in Florida. I have heard of some of these other schools, but can't speak to them. However, I've been on the Flagler campus several times. You should visit, if only to see it, because it's stunning. It's in an old hotel, and it has Tiffany windows, it overlooks the ocean and the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine, and just... wow. As for its academics, it's fine - not the best, far from the worst. It's been rated as one of America's best value colleges by US News & World Report.

Minnie Said:

What Florida colleges have good foreign language programs?

We Answered:

Hi Megan

At the undergraduate level, all the state's 4 year schools have programs that are just fine. You really need to apply to the following schools, then go to whichever gives you the best financial package so you graduate with the least amount of debt possible.

Florida Atlantic University
Boca Raton, FL

Florida State University
Tallahassee, FL

University of Florida
Gainesville, FL

University of Miami
Coral Gables, FL

University of South Florida
Tampa, FL

UF is the highest ranked school, but I would go to U of Miami for an excellent education, safe locality, low cost, and a delightful college experience.

Lloyd Said:

What is the difficulty for getting accepted to florida colleges?

We Answered:

Don't listen to "Sharp with.." Florida colleges, especially FSU and UF, rank among the tops in the nation in many programs. If you take the expensive private universities (Harvard, Yale, etc.) out of the equation they seem even higher.

My suggestion is to apply to a couple that you might like to go to. I think the application fee might still be $20 or so. Worst case scenario is you don't get in.

The reason it is hard to get in is because they are state universities and try to cater to their own residents first.

Francis Said:

Are there any Florida colleges with women's hockey teams?

We Answered:

I know of no women's college teams in Florida. I do remember a few years ago, I read an article about the coach of the men's team at the University of Florida starting a team.
