Colleges In Illinois

Glen Said:

What are some good colleges in Illinois?

We Answered:

Any liberal arts college will offer English, Creative Writing, and History. What really counts in these programs is whether YOU take advantage of the opportunities afforded.

That said, take a look at the extra-cirriculars. Is there a poetry society? School newspaper with a fine arts section? Find one that has the clubs that pique your interest, and you will find the community you are seeking. There are too many colleges in Illinois that would fit the bill for me to list - Northwestern, U of Chicago, Illinois all the way down to College of DuPage - which has a great writing program despite being a community college.

And, when in doubt, try for Champaign.

Other good schools are Northern Illinois U and Illinois State.
You want to stay away from Chicago State and Governor's State.

Amanda Said:

Is anyone currently enrolled in, or has graduated from any of these Illinois colleges?

We Answered:

Hi Heather

Interesting listing of colleges - all the way from extremely good to waste of time and money.

The information you want is all online and is more data-based and much less subjective than you will find here.

Go to College Matchmaker, from the College Board company. Go to that website, enter your personal information and SAT or ACT scores, tell them where [State or area or even by zip code] you want to go to college and what majors you may be interested in, and see what comes up. Then, make sure that you apply to at least three of the schools likely to accept you. College admissions can be cruel at times, and you definitely want to have some choice

Also, it is a good idea to read what other students say about the colleges you are investigating. The best free site for that feedback is run by The Princeton Review.
Here is their web address: http://www.princetonreview.com/com.aspx

There is some value in the US News rankings. You can find them for each accredited school here:

Beware of schools that don't cooperate with the rankings panels. My experience is that they usually are just scamming gullible students.

Maxine Said:

Which one of these illinois colleges has the best medical program?

We Answered:

You appear to be asking about pre-med programs.

Northwestern ranks so much more highly than the other named universities that it would be the best choice if you can be admitted, pay the tuition fee, and keep up with the competition.

Virtually every four-year college and university in the US offers sufficient pre-med preparation whether or not it has a formal program.

The medical schools list the undergraduate classes required for admission on their websites. Try to earn A grades in them and in the rest of your curriculum.
