Colleges In Johannesburg

Ted Said:

Where do I find 2 single flights from Johannesburg to UK in early January?

We Answered:

I'm guessing that you've only looked at direct flights so far...

Try to find flights to elswhere in Europe or the Middle East. Getting a flight to London from there would be quite easy. I'd look at all the Western European airlines as well as Emirates.

What is life like living in Johannesburg, South Africa?

We Answered:

Everybody will give their own opinion of where you should stay.
The teacher's college (ECP) is in Pretoria. There are a few universities and colleges in Jhb. University of Johannesburg, RAU, Wits University. Unfortunately I don't know the colleges.
2 bedroom townhouses are better and safer than apartments and goes in the vicinity of R2500 - R5500/ month depending on the area. Sandton will obviously be much more than that.
Cable (DSTV) is R480/month, your phone will depend on the contract and service provider or you can take a 'Pay as you go' phone.
Groceries will depend on how many dependents you have and what and where you buy, but on average for two people it costs R1500 - R2500/ month (estimated).
Yes, you'll need a car since we don't have a very good public transport system, especially when you live in the suburbs. (Don't even consider accommodation in the CBD of ANY city.)
Acceptance...I'd advise you to get that info from the South African Embassy.

PS. Every city has its pro's and cons. Jhb unfortunately has the highest crime rate. Cape Town's weather is dreadful (in my opinion), since it's still cold in the middle of spring and we have a saying that it's the only place in South Africa where you can experience 4 seasons in one day.
Durban...I don't know it well enough, but I understand that crime levels are also fairly high.
Pretoria, my personal preference, crime.
Bloemfontein, quiet but also has a very good university...just bitter cold in winter.

Johannesburg has two universities with teaching colleges, the University of Johannesburg and the Johannesburg College of Education, which is part of the university of the Witwatersrand.

Rent should be about R 3000- R 5000, groceries for one person probably about R 1000, phone depends on your usage but probably about R 200 per month, and about R500 for DSTV (satellite TV, our closest equivalent to cable).

You can come on a student visa after applying to the relevant institutions.

And you might get by without a car if you live close to your place of study, but I would strongly recommend that you get a car. They are working on improving our public transport system, but for now it is very hard to get around with no car.
