Community College Jobs

Joseph Said:

Community college jobs -- am I a good fit?

We Answered:

Won't know until you apply. While the job market is tight, community colleges are getting more and more student applicants, so there may be an increased need for teachers.

Just detail why you think you'd be a good instructor for the particular classes that they're advertising needing an instructor for.

Floyd Said:

How can I balance two part-time jobs with community college full-time and still have time to sleep?

We Answered:

Since entering and leaving college (graduated in 2007) I have not heard of anyone who had two part time jobs and did school full time AND managed to have a "life".

I have heard of people who literally worked their way through college. However they - at most - had 1 job that was around 32 hours a week (the cut off for a job to be considered full time is 35 hours/week). I may have heard of people doing that and an internship but the internship was a best a self-scheduled thing and did not have set hours for the student to complete.

College in itself should be considered a job. Think about what YOUR priorities are, if you know (or at least most of the time) know what they are, that will make life a little easier for you. There's no use tiring yourself out over short term goals.

Now more than ever people (and society) in general need to concentrate for the long term - tiring yourself out (or worse working at a job that does that) will not help you toward your goals. Be it becoming a doctor, lawyer, teacher, whatnot.

For example: if you feel that you can operate on 5 hours of sleep everyday for an extended period of time, then go for it. Find a job(s) and college where you can work, play, and study around.

But like I mentioned before, I haven't heard of anyone doing two jobs AND college. Even the ones that I knew who had one job and college, they were very hard to reach people simply because of their hectic work and study schedule.

Good luck to you and your endeavors!

Charlene Said:

what kind of jobs can i get in a community college insurane course?

We Answered:

You would have to go to university after community college to first get a Bachelor's degree before you would be eligible to get your MBA. Your credits may or may not transfer so you'll be spending at least another 2-3 years in undergraduate then you'd have to apply to MBA programs. That would be ideal for getting a good job, you can't really get anything decent with just a 2-year degree.

What different jobs only require a simple 6-12 week course at a tech school or community college?

We Answered:

Welding.

To get a certificate in welding, students only need to pass a practical test.

How do you get teaching experience if you want to teach at a community college?

We Answered:

They want you to have experience teaching college. Many masters students can get teaching experience while working on their degree, working as a teaching assistant. Look into this while doing the degree. There may be other opportunities to teach classes as well.

Thelma Said:

Thoughts and ideas about gaining teaching experience so I can get a Community College job.?

We Answered:

You seem to have some teaching experience. Now, you just need to find a way to convince the department head at the college that you are competent and reliable enough to teach a class on your own.

Take a class or two at the school. Learn about their programs from a students perspective and meet some of the teaching staff. Continue tutoring when you can. Ask your teachers if they need somebody to help fill in teaching (maybe for a vacation or a sick day or something similar).

The more people you meet in the program, the more comfortable they will be with your teaching there. Oh, and if it isn't obvious already, take some classes in education and public speaking to give you more credentials and keep your skills fresh. Good luck!

Barbara Said:

why do people that go to community college still get good jobs?

We Answered:

its not all about school but about career choice. Plumbers can be trained by paid apprenticeships than then make a heck of a lot of money!
