Community College Of Vermont

Lonnie Said:

College in Northeast near Ski Resort? Business major?

We Answered:

Middlebury is a private school and is rather expensive. They take some charity cases and have scholarship money, but it doesn't have a stellar business program either. It's a liberal arts school. It has it's own ski bowl and is also close to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.

UVM (The University of Vermont..that's Universitas Virdis Montis, or latin for "University of the Green Mountains") is really expensive for out-of-staters. It's a quick drive to Bolton, not a bad drive to MRG or Sugarbush (about and hour) and just over an hour to Stowe and Smuggs. Saint Mike's and Champlain College are also in Burlington.

Castleton State is about 40 minutes from Killington and Pico. Green Mountain College (not public) is just a little further away in Poultney, VT.

Lyndon State is close to Burke. Johnson State is not too far from Stowe and Jay.

Check out all the VT state colleges here.http://web.vsc.edu/

Many offer internships with the ski resorts if you are in business, hotel management, or outdoor recreation programs.

Morgan G has no clue where Brown is. It's in Rhode Island and Brian doesn't even know how to spell the college names correctly. WTF is "UVN and UVH"? I don't like to bash other answerers, but that's just bad info.

High acceptance rate colleges in michigan?

We Answered:

"high acceptance rate" means they accept a large amount of the students who applied. In other words, schools with high acceptance rates are not that great. I'm not familiar with any Michigan schools other than the University of Michigan, which is a super outstanding school. But I don't know why you're saying that VT schools suck. I'm also from New England, and many people from my state (though not myself) choose to go to college in VT because they're fairly good institutions and they're in beautiful locations. Two of my closest friends are going to UVM next year, one for French and the other for biochemistry. In past years students have gone to Champlain, Bennington, Johnson State, Green Mountain College, Middlebury, Lyndon State and, I'm sure, many more. Some of those schools are better than others, but I know for a fact that Champlain, Bennington and Middlebury are outstanding.

Can I transfer to a university mid-semester?

We Answered:

True, you will, indeed either have to stick it out for this semester, and then transfer, or simply move and start anew. Why not try to find an apartment with some friends for this semester, and stick it out. It will look better on your transcripts, and make it easier to get into your next school. Good luck.

Why are people here are so negitive towards disabled.....?

We Answered:

Lost on Planet Earth - there are some people here who are negative toward people with disabilities, there are also some people here with disabilities who are negative toward people without disabilities.

Just as in any society, there are going to be people who just don't see eye to eye with each other and will disagree on nearly everything. An internet society is no different.

I have nothing against people with disabilities.. my partner of 7 1/2 years is confined to a wheelchair, and I also work as a personal care attendant to people with disabilities. Hence, a large proportion of my life is spent looking after people with varying disabilities, mental and physical.

There are people here who genuinely have questions to ask, people who genuinely have problems they need to share, and there are people who are not at all genuine and get treated as such.

Sorry that you are so disillusioned, but take heart that not everyone is as you desccribe :-)

I cant get into college so what now?

We Answered:

Yes, you can go to community college in Pasadena and then transfer to a UC or Cal State. There are special transfer programs you can follow to help facilitate this. BUT, you will have to pay more as a non-resident, and if you move here for college, you cannot become a resident after 1 year and 1 day like you usually can if you moved here for another reason, like your whole family moved here. Check the resident requirements carefully on the colleges websites! Even if they let you be a resident at a community college after a year + 1 day (really not easy to do), the UCs and Cal States are much more strict and it states on their websites that just because you were a resident at CC doesn't mean you're going to be a resident for our colleges. So read through the residency info on their website to make a plan.

For a community college it will cost you about $4560 more a year as a non-resident, for the Cal States, about $11,000 more a year, and for the UCs, about $22,000 more a year. You can see the cost of attending college in the LA area here, the numbers include rent, you can find out the cost living with family on the college websites: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

Why not go to college where you live now, it will cost you a lot less! Then after you finish your education, come here for a job. There are almost no jobs available now, but it should be better in 4 years. If you come now, you'll have to come here with about 4 months or more expenses in cash, including college costs, because it may very likely take that long to get a job.

Pasadena City College is a great community college.
