Community Colleges In Illinois

Ted Said:

Which are the good community colleges in Illinois if I want to transfer to UIL at Urbana-Champaign?

We Answered:

What's UIL?
U of I, or UIUC, will take transfers from all Illinois Community Colleges. Illinois has a consortium initiative to streamline transfers of Associates degrees to 4 year state schools, and makes sure that the topics covered in one school are the same in all schools. Go to the one that is in-district to save some money over out-of-district fees.

If you are out of state (Indiana, for example... Ivy Tech credits may or maynot transfer), then look at Parkland. It's in Champaign, and geared for those from not only the surrounding counties, but those looking to transfer to Illinois.

Community Colleges in Illinois that have Mass Communications?

We Answered:

I'm not sure that many community colleges offer 'mass communications' as a major but there may be a similar major such as 'communications', 'english' or 'journalism'. The field of communications and journalism is supposed to be quite competitive just fyi :)

Regarding whether the credits transfer, one should really check with the university(s) that he or she would like to transfer to Before actually taking certain courses as not all classes transfer to all schools.

With schooling, please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools (may have 'brick and mortar' buildings and may be 'accredited') such as penn foster, capella, university of phoenix, strayer, ITT tech, kaplan, ashworth, walden, argosy, sanford brown, ashworth, devry, ashford, remington, ashwood, colorado tech and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may Not transfer to other schools): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

General career information: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'broadcasting', 'news analysts, reporters, and correspondents' or such.

For accredited programs in broadcast journalism (most likely at the university level): http://www.ku.edu/~acejmc
