Amy Said:

Do any community colleges in Los Angeles have dorm housing?

We Answered:

There are no community colleges in the Los Angeles area that offer housing. The closest community college to downtown Los Angeles with housing is probably Santa Barbara City College, so that's a good distance away.

Please bear in mind that community colleges that offer housing usually have *very* limited spaces available, so the process for obtaining it might be very complicated, and there is no guarantee that you would ultimately receive a housing spot.

I did a College Board search for you of all California community colleges that offer housing, and I came up with this list:

Cerro Coso Community College - Ridgecrest
College of the Redwoods - Eureka
College of the Siskiyous - Weed
Columbia College - Sonora
Feather River College - Quincy
Laney College - Oakland
Lassen Community College - Susanville
Reedley College
Riverside Community College
Santa Barbara City College
Santa Rosa Junior College
Shasta College - Redding
Sierra College - Rocklin
Taft College
West Hills College - Coalinga
West Hills College - Lemoore
Yuba Community College District - Marysville

If the college you found is not on that list, I would say that's is a very rare exception and that you probably will not find a similar situation elsewhere. I've personally never heard of community colleges doing that, so I can't imagine you finding it somewhere else. I would suggest trying Santa Barbara, especially since it has an excellent reputation and isn't *too* far from Los Angeles.

Terri Said:

What are some good Community colleges in los Angeles?

We Answered:

The Los Angeles area community colleges are actually quite similar. I've been to several as a long time college grad with higher degrees, my favorite was Pasadena City College. The transfer rates (to 4 year colleges) at all the local community colleges are actually quite similar.

The cost for community college fees, books, living expenses, etc, will run $17,130 for 9 months, plus about another $5000 for summer expenses. That is a very tight budget and most kids will need to spend more. Add about $4400 more per year if you're a non-resident, meaning you haven't lived in CA for over a year and met the other requirements.

You should attend a community college closest to your home. Showing up is a big part of being successful in college, which is why many 4 year colleges want Freshmen especially to live on campus. You won't have time between working and studying to do much partying. Santa Monica College is near the beach, but to live in a safe area near there, you will have to pay much more than the budget most community colleges list (like the PCC list below). Santa Monica has some bad areas where you wouldn't feel safe living, and they aren't even cheap compared to other areas in LA.

These are similar at all So Cal CC's, but rental costs will be the biggest difference.

CA CC's: http://www.cccco.edu/CommunityColleges/C…

Some of the CC's in the LA area are LACC, Pasadena City College, Santa Monica College, Glendale Community College, LAVC.

Good luck!

Los Angeles Community Colleges with Dorms.?

We Answered:

There are no CC's with dorms in the LA Metro Area, and that includes CCs in OC and Riverside. You're kinda stuck.

But you can probably afford an apartment near ELAC or Rio Hondo (SMC, Pierce, not so much). And you can probably afford to live in a place with a roommate. You just have to search a little harder and maybe lower your standards a tinge to afford a place in LA.

I pay under a thousand, and I live alone.
