Community Colleges In Southern California

Rita Said:

what community colleges in southern california offer pre-medicine classes?

We Answered:

As Arbitrary said, all ccs offer the basic classes required for pre-med, which include:
- Bio with lab
- Gen chem w lab
- Organic chem w lab
- Physics w lab
- Math at least through stats, preferably through calc
- College level English
- Additional science classes as specified by the med schools you're looking at, which tend to include anatomy and physiology, biochem and etc.

Please note, however, that med schools prefer that you leave more than half of your pre-med classes for once you transfer to a university. You are welcome to take some of these classes at the cc, and you SHOULD take some there, but save a decent chunk of them for university.

The advantage to taking some of these classes at the cc are that they tend to be smaller than the same class at a university, so you can get more one-on-one attention - a good thing.

At the cc, I recommend that you take a year of college level English, and all the math you need. Take the science classes you'd like to take there, but again, save some of those science classes for once you reach uni.

Does Anyone know of any Community Colleges in Southern California that offer Winter Session Courses?

We Answered:

Unfortunately due to budget cuts from the state, many colleges that did offer winter courses have canceled them.

Glenda Said:

what are some good community colleges in southern california?

We Answered:

Mt SAC is very good, as well as Chaffey College, but they are all pretty much the same academically. If you like Santa Barbara, then that's the best one for you. Plan some campus tours to see how you like the different campuses.

There would be absolutly no benefit to come to CA to do Community College. The fees would be outrageous and the CC system is very over crowded. Many peole do not get into classes because of the over crowding. Take advantage of a community college near you and thet tranfer to CA later (although the cost would still be VERY high). and finish your BA in CA.

We Answered:

Check Cal Poly Pomona, I know they have a program. Most of the above listing is in Northern California.
