SHould i be a medical assistant or a lpn?

We Answered:

Unfortunately, there aren't supposed to be too many jobs for the MA (or medical biller or coder) despite what those private $$ business/tech schools (such as dover business college seems) or online, for-profit schools such as everest proclaim anyway. A lot of MAs have also said how frustrating it is that most employers prefer applicants that have at least 1-2 years experience in the field to possibly get the job.

With schooling, please do steer clear of those online, for-profit schools (may have 'bricks and mortar' buildings and may be 'accredited') such as penn foster, everest, capella, argosy, stratford career, ITT tech, strayer, career step, ashworth, kaplan, ashford, walden, US career, remington, excelsior and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may Not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

If still interested in training for MA or lpn, please opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry.

With cosmetologists/hair stylists, most need a couple of years experience in the field to 'get a book' of regular customers before possibly making a decent salary. Hair stylists (some prefer term 'hair designers') also need to do a lot of standing in their feet and are prone to back problems as well as 'repetitive strain injuries' such as carpal tunnel syndrome where the person gets a pinched nerve at the wrist from doing the same motion over and again (blowdrying and cutting the hair).

With lpn (or any health care field), please consider job shadowing/observing and even volunteering at the local hospital or nursing home before enrolling in a program. Here is a website to find volunteer opportunities (usually non-direct patient care): http://www.volunteermatch.org

What is the expected salary in the Dover DE area for a business major fresh out of college?

We Answered:

Go to www.salary.com

You can look up specific jobs, by YOUR zip code, and it gives you a salary range that takes into consideration experience and education.

Vanessa Said:

does anybody know anything about dover business college?

We Answered:

They have national accreditation (ACICS), which means they're a legitimate school. You'll probably get a decent education there.

However, you might want to investigate what other schools in your area offer similar courses, and see if any of them are regionally accredited. Regional accreditation is generally a sign of better academic standards. Also, credits from a regionally accredited school will be accepted by most other colleges and universities if you want to transfer to them at any time in the future. Credits from nationally accredited schools are not nearly so transferrable.
