One doesn't have to be a cop to be a CSI but having law enforcement expertise helps greatly in dealing with the suspects.
Theresa Said:
What are the top 5 colleges for forensic science? We Answered:
To become a forensic scientist - sort of like the folks on CSI - you don't major in forensic science. Instead, you major in biology, chemistry, or physics. And which science you choose should be based on two things - your own interests, and the type of forensic science you want to go into. For example, you want ballistics? Major in physics. Toxicology? Chem. DNA? Bio.Go to a strong science school. Don't limit yourself to schools that specifically offer forensic science as a major. In fact, one of the problems in the field right now is that lots of people want to go into the field, but a lot of those "forensic science" majors aren't good enough, and you won't be prepared, and you won't get hired. Instead, go to a good university, and major in a lab science like biology or etc.
Many people working as forensic scientists have a masters degree as well, so that may be something you want to consider for the future. But for right now, focus on good unis, like Penn State main, that offer lab science majors.
