Keiser Career College

Francisco Said:

Has anyone attended Keiser Career College?

We Answered:

I have not been there, but I think I can answer your real question, which is whether you should go there, because you have provided useful information in your question and I have checked their website.

I am 99% certain that this is a proprietary (for profit) college as their website lists their corporate history and states that at one point they were acquired by two individuals. A college being acquired by individuals is almost always a proprietary college.

The problem with almost all proprietary colleges is that they have a legal obligation to make profits for their shareholders and this obligation may override their obligation to educate their students. This is called a potential conflict of interest. For this reason, many colleges of this type do not give their students as good an education as they should be getting for the money they paid as tuition.

The real giveaway here is that they would not answer your questions on the phone. The main reasons businesses refuse to answer questions from potential customers on the phone (and that is how most proprietary colleges regard their students) is that the business has something to "hide" or that the business wants the person to visit so that she or he can be subjected to a high pressure sales presentation.

For these reasons, most proprietary colleges have little or no respect among the academic community or employers. Consequently their degrees are very often of little or no value in obtaining employment.

I strongly suggest that you look into attending a public community college which will have much lower fees and probably a better reputation.

I am not making any statement against this college in particular. I am only providing an opinion about proprietary colleges in general.

Caveat emptor (buyer beware)

Does anyone know if Keiser Career College is a good school?

We Answered:

Just the "career" in the school's name spells expensive :) I looked at the website, and it seems as though a prospective student needs to provide personal information in order to get tuition rates and such. That usually means big bucks and the program may not even be accredited within the industry. Please instead consider the local community college or university as long as it is accredited within the industry.

For possible customer complaints posted about schools and business establishments: http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

Edit: Please note that just about all schools tout a department to help one with locating a job, however, most 'leads' can be found in the local newspaper or online job site. It's basically a marketing ploy to get the student to sign up for the program :)

Are private career colleges worth the money?

We Answered:

Well, congratuations on your pregnancy! Hoping that both you and baby continue to be very healthy :) Regarding the schools that you'd mentioned including keiser and everest, they are in the catagory of those online, for-profit schools (though may have 'brick and mortar' buildings and may be 'accredited) and should be avoided. This consumer site has many posts by former students about those online, for-profit school (also including penn foster, ashworth, devry, ITT tech, strayer, university of phoenix, kaplan, argosy, sanford brown, high tech, ashford, colorado tech, ashwood, remington and others) as they are merely out to 'make a profit' and course credits may Not transfer to other schools: http://www.ripoffreport.com and can search.

Your plan to attend the more affordable community college sounds very pragmatic (practical) and some of the course credits may transfer to a four-year college or university. Attending the community college will also allow you to take one or two classes at a time especially when having to care for your baby (knock wood ;)

Regarding barry university, this consumer site has some posts by former students about the college (and other colleges) and some negative (with the 'red square'): http://www.studentsreview.com and can type the school into search and then click 'comments' or such.

How long is it from Miami to Fort Lauderdale?

We Answered:

It depends on the time of the day. During rush hour (btw 8 and 10 and then 5 to 7) it can take you an hour and a half, if tehre,s an accident even longer. During off peak hours it will be more like 45 mins. Mapquest can,t calculate peak hours only the way to get from point A to point B, so i think you have a lot of common sense asking people who live in the area. Good luck!

Ricky Said:

Which is the better ranked school? Devry University, Keiser College, Broward College, or Florida Career Colleg?

We Answered:

DeVry is TAC/ABET accredited in Engineering Technology. This is a valuable accreditation. These degrees, and maybe BSTM, are the only good degrees at DeVry.

Broward is a standard Community College.

Keiser and FCC are mostly useless for-profit colleges with poor accreditations.
