Its unbelievable that you are getting answers from people that do not live in MK and therefore have no idea how buzzin the place is!!
It is true that it is a very strange place for a new comer as the road system is like no other in the UK. admittedly public transport is leaves a lot be desired, but you can get from one side of MK to the other by bike without crossing a main road & by vehicle in around 10 minutes.
It is not true that the place has no history as MK is made up of 5 smaller villages with one being mentioned in the Doomsday book, Wolverton is steeped in history and so is Bletchley Park, I used to have an iaccurate title of concrete city, but if you visit you will see that this isnt the case, everywhere you look there is green spaces, several lakes, theatre, clubs a huge shopping centre, a fantastic outdoor concert venue, real snow slope, watersking tows, rock climbing as the style council said "Come to Milton Keynes" and make you own mind up.
I'm not sure what Uni you'd be going to as they only have the Open Uni.
