Pamela Said:

Is Santa Barbara City College a good school?

We Answered:

SBCC has repeatedly been ranked as the number one junior college in the country.
This is not hearsay but fact.
If you want to go to a junior college, there is no better.

Natalie Said:

do you have to live in santa barbara in order to go to santa barbara city college?

We Answered:

Santa Barbara City College is a community college, so anyone can attend. That would be an awfully long commute to make everyday, so I'd suggest you move into the area, which most students do. Isla Vista is a very common place for students to live, though like anywhere in Santa Barbara can get expensive. Good luck(:

moving to go to Santa Barbara city college .. HELP!!?

We Answered:

Weather:
Not perfect, but close. Mostly sunny and warm, but not hot summers. Some stretches of low clouds and fog in the summer that usually clears to bright sunny days, but not always. Mild winters that almost never go below freezing. The mountains north of the city get a dusting of snow about once a year. Very mild autumns and wet but not too wet winters.

Cost: outrageous for houses, but affordable if you are renting an apartment. Much more than most of Minnesota, but not as crazy as L.A. Food costs are pretty much the same all over the country so you won't have any surprises there.

People are quite laid back and cordial if not "mid-western" friendly. You can easily make friends there, but don't just sit, wait expect someone to throw themselves at you. People in CA respect each others' privacy and assume that if you don't reach out, then you don't want to be bothered.

SBCC is set up on a hill above the beach with a great view of the mountains, city and ocean. If you are not a outdoor type of person, you'd better become one if you want to get the most out of SB. There are much better areas for nightlife, but few can come close when it comes to enjoying the beach, mountains, bicycling and walking/running.

The college itself is a typical California Community college. For some, it is 13th grade. For others, it is an economical way of getting your bearings before moving up to the full university experience. The classes teach you the same subject matter as UC's, just at a little more relaxed atmosphere with a little less cut throat competition. You can also get additional vocational experience at community colleges that are not offered at universities.

When/if you transfer to UCSB, you will find that the academics will be more advanced, but if you work hard at SBCC, it is no more difficult, just be aware that upper division classes are always tougher no matter where you started. If you are more mature by then, you'll probably want to stay away from Isla Vista (that's a party area for younger students and noisy) and probably want to either go to the Student apartments in Goleta or get an off campus apartment outside of IV.

Be aware that you will be paying out of state fees for your first year which is a lot more than what CA residents pay (about $5200). If you stay in California, you can eventually pay resident fees for SBCC and UCSB. Check the residence requirements.

Max Said:

How hard is to get on Santa Barbara City College Tennis Team?

We Answered:

Most college teams allow walk-ons, even top notch division 1 schools. My niece plays on a community college team and the skill level varies for each school and area. I would just go talk to the coach and see if there is room on the team, or if you have to tryout. I think some community college teams don't even have enough players. Good luck!

Rebecca Said:

Santa Monica College or Santa Barbara City College?

We Answered:

That's a good question I am planning to enroll in one of those two colleges too, but the truth is santa monica and santa barbara are two of the top transfer colleges and I think santa monica may be a little inexpensive towards living arrangements for you, so do some research I recomend the link below to help you out.
