How do you get verified for DreamSpark if you go to a college not on the list?

We Answered:

That's a fun one. Just go to the dreamspark website, sign up for a screen name if you don't already have one. Then go to virginiawestern.edu. On the top of the page there is a menu called quickconnect. Under that you will see "find my username" You don't need this if you already know your school issued email address. Then go to journeyed.com. Do a product search for "Dreamspark". Add the resulting 1 product to your cart and check out. Make a new account if need be. When prompted, tell them you will fax or email your verification. Then call (800) 874-9001. The menu choices are 3 then 2:) Tell the person on the phone that you don't have a class schedule or Student ID if they ask. Even if you do tell them this anyway because it will be quicker. Ask if you can verify using your school email address. Give them the email, and within 24 hours you will be emailed your verification link! Very simple! I have already completed this process myself and trust me it is well worth it. They have XNA 2.0 12 month subscriptions, VB 2008, Server 2003 and all kinds of stuff for free!
Good luck!

Want to become a dental hygienist....?

We Answered:

All good questions you've asked. For the exam, it's a national exam, so you could practice in any state. It may be wise to go with the program close to home.

If you want to work in a dental office without a license, you can only do so as the receptionist.

College and High School Classes/Courses to Take?

We Answered:

I think it's wonderful that you know the passion of your life and are looking for ways to make it a career! I love that you're thinking so early on to prepare for it too. My son rides and I would think your biggest resources would be the equine centre owners that you already know. Start talking to them on how they are able to run a successful barn and take notes. Keep all your notes organized by relevant section, maybe something like: business, equipment, services etc.
As you gather info, you might want to work as a coach at a number of successful barns to earn money for the down payment you're going to need as well as gaining a reputation in the field, client loyalty and referrals.
As for education, as a parent, your experience counts for a lot and I know there are coaching courses to give you the basics. You are already knowledgeable about horses and styles of riding so to teach it to others you'd need a coaching course and maybe First Aid or other Safety courses...
I would recommend that you get a diploma in something related that you can work at, making money before you get your barn and that you can use to supplement your income while you build your business otherwise you'll be taking a huge risk and have little to show for it. If you went for Veterinary Assistant in large animal work, you would be able to help your own horses and save yourself money later. It also helps your credibility in the field. It's a life of hard work but your passion is there. While you're working on it, make sure you can feed yourself and pay your bills.
For high school classes, you might want to take Business and Accounting so you can run things yourself with some knowledge and confidence. It's a side many people overlook when focusing on the content of the business. Marketing classes as well as Math and English would also assist you in building skills. Computer skills are very important as you'll need to market online and could take advantage of other opportunities like business cards and pamphlets etc.
Hopefully that helps a bit.
Good luck!
