Comprehensive Metabolic Panel

Terrence Said:

How many tubes of blood will be needed for a (cmp) comprehensive metabolic panel?

We Answered:

just one

Kathy Said:

can comprehensive metabolic panel & complete blood count detect pregnancy?

We Answered:

Those tests will NOT detect pregnancy. A pregnancy test is not standard bloodwork. It must be asked for.

You should to back to the Dr. and explain what is going on and tell them you would like a blood test to confirm pregnancy. At most hospitals, clinics or Planned Parenthood centers, You can just walk in and request a pregnancy test without a Dr.

Good Luck!

June Said:

Comprehensive metabolic panel?

We Answered:

Lots of hospitals will start you on an IV the instant you enter the doors "just in case." The CMP itself, however, is a series of tests they can do by sampling your blood. So no, you will not need an IV, but you will need a blood sample, involving a needle.

Don't worry, it'll be over before you know it! Good luck!

Guy Said:

I had a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel. My proteins were high (9.0) What does this mean?

We Answered:

High proteins would show up in the kidney portion of the metabolic panel test, you need to discuss this with your doctor as to whether or not you need further kidney tests to be properly evaluated.

Charlotte Said:

Lipid Profile and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel results?

We Answered:

Low ALT is good.

High DHDL is good.

Are you on any cholesterol lowering drugs? Because those drugs can cause live damage and hence an increase ALT. That's why your Dr is monitoring it.

April Said:

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel same test but more than Basic Panel?

We Answered:

You are correct that you shouldn't have to pay for both tests from the same visit.

However, there are several possible explanations. The cost of all the tests on a CMP might be $724 and they break out the bill as BMP ($316) and CMP($408) for the different components. If your insurance company decides you "didn't need" the CMP, the hospital can still collect for the BMP.

Perhaps the doctor (or triage nurse) first ordered a BMP and later they added the CMP. If the BMP was already on your bill, they may have just added the difference under the CMP charge.

Call the billing department at the hospital and inquire about the 2 charges. Hopefully, they can give you a reasonable answer.
