During my career, I've noticed a few things. First, some students who are very literal have difficulty answering inferential questions because they can not relate to the question from their experience. Second, some reading comprehension questions I read from student textbooks are not clearly written and can easily confuse even the brightest student. Third, students may indeed to be able to answer the questions but rush through because it's not that important to them.

I'm a student and I don't comprehend what I read well in the past too. Since reading occupies quite a lot of my time every day, I've looked for some ways to improve it. I followed some speed reading and comprehension course and now I read much better. It helps a lot on my study, especially on time spend on study and understanding on what I read.

There are actually some formal skills to read better, but you need to find some course and tools to practice. I cannot be acquried by knowing only a few points. So if you're serious on this I'll suggest you to look for some reading course to take. It'll not only help your comprehension, but also the speed you take in information.
