Anyone taking the GRE have any advice on doing better on the reading comprehension?

Buy practice GRE exams (either books or electronic devices). They provide ways to speed up your reading comprehension, and can help to boost your overall score too!

Kimberly Said:

how do i improve my reading comprehension and analytic writing on gre?

We Answered:

Get a lot of practice. With reading comprehension, what I did was to read books, some textbooks and some fictional, and try to summarize. Then I would look at cliff notes or go to the textbook's website to make sure that I correctly understood what was happening in the book and that I got the main points. This will help you to focus on what is important in the passages that you read and what is just filler. As far as analytic writing, the only thing that you can do for that is practice. You can go to www.tutor.com to have qualified tutors look over your writing and give you pointers on writing. I work for this company and get a lot of practice writing and analyzing papers this way.

GRE Verbal Question?

We Answered:

I took the GRE on Sept 21st and I did get 3 reading comprehension passages. I was hoping that I would only get 2, but sure enough a third one popped up near the end (I think it was around question 23-25). It was a pretty long passage, too. It definitely got my heart racing faster, but I managed to focus and still finish on time.

Good luck.

GRE reading comprehension section?

We Answered:

Practice reading. Sounds bizarre, doesn't it? Unless you are a "speed reader" there is not enough time given during the reading comp section to actually read the sections and critically answer all of the questions. Go through some of the practice books with a timer and test yourself. Try to get accustomed to weeding out the fluff from the real information. Also remember that when you take the GRE it is all on the computer so you can't underline or star any important things. Kaplan offers a GRE prep course that is quite helpful. Good luck.
