Non Fiction Reading Comprehension

Priscilla Said:

What can be done to get a non-stop late-teenage fiction reader involved in life?

We Answered:

As long as the person is happy and content and is not behaving in a way that harms others, I would leave them alone.

External pressure to "get a life" (whatever that means) can actually be very detrimental to their emotional well-being. When the person feels the need for social contact, they will seek it out themselves.

All true pursuits are evidence of desires that come from within.

Lillian Said:

Why do I have so much trouble concentrating when reading textbooks?

We Answered:

usually collage level text books are just genuinly a dry read and arent enjoyable other things usuall have some interest to them...
also you have to think about how much you paid for those suckers every time you look at them haha but yeah it's probably cause of their "direct information no value" it's like trying to ask why a pie chart isnt as appeling to the eyes as a oil painting...
one thing you can do to help you retain the information is write down the information as you read take notes along while reading the text and summerize in your own words to keep you on your toes so to speak, if none of that works just read them and try and memorize the info the best you can and take the tests
goodluck!

Tracey Said:

How to improve non-fiction reading in English?

We Answered:

Some tips:

Read the passages as if they were fiction. If you treat a dry passage like a story, it will help you maintain your interest.

Read actively. Underline key words and phrases. This forces you to pay close attention to the passages. Be careful not to simply underline everything, though.

Skim through the questions before you read the passage. That way, you know what information to look for while reading.

Good Luck!
