Do you know any on-line or other sources for a self educating person?

We Answered:

There are so many reading sources that I wouldn't know where to start!

University lectures are pretty easy to find with the right key words. Search .edu websites.

Economics for the Citizen - http://economics.gmu.edu/wew/misc/econci…

MIT open courseware - http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/…

for writing, try the OWL at Purdue - http://owl.english.purdue.edu/

Also try browsing world-class museum sites -

Perry Said:

Is this dyslexia?

We Answered:

Indeed, that sounds like a normal problem to have. My typing mistakes usually involve habit: I'll type as the ending of a word the spelling of a different, common word. For example, I often attempt to type "England" or "English" and end up with my name, which shares the first few letters, because I am so accustomed to typing it. I think the reason you do this with contractions is that most words with the apostrophe and thereafter left out are still words - "you're" without the "'re" is still the word "you". That could also very well be the reason you don't notice it when skimming over the text.

Rest assured, this is not severe enough to be dyslexia.

Neil Said:

Do I have a learning disability?

We Answered:

It could be possible. If you are still in high school, you could talk to your counselor about finding out how to be tested. Be warned though... the will probably be reluctant to do it because that type of thing is usually done in elementary school. It sounds like you are really smart and have used some compensation skills to make up for your reading short falls so if there is a disability, you did a good job of covering it up.

If you are already in college, most universities have a disabilities service office or counseling center that can do the testing for you.

Just my two cents... finding out could be good because if you have some testing, they will be able to find out how your brain things and give your strategies to help you. You shouldn't do it just for the label. I think you are too smart to use it as a crutch.

Good luck!
