Calvin Said:
Why do think so many on R&S choose to quibble about secondary numerical estimates or some citation about.....?We Answered:
I didn't. I conceded that many of the skeptics' websites treat scripture unfairly. There is still a difference between, say, the Noah story being internally consistent textually and it being possible. It is not possible for much of the Bible to be true, even if its authors got their lies straight.Darlene Said:
What is the major focus of shared reading? We Answered:
In K through 1st I guess you could have a focus phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, but certainly with older students I feel that shared reading helps develop fluency, comprehension and builds vocabulary. It could be daunting for a student to be reading something they do not have the phonics and spelling skills to decode. that would be embarrassing and better suited to a one-on-one guided reading situation where the teacher could better support and instruct.
Shared reading should be at a 'just right' level for the students so that they can enjoy it and practice using the literacy skills they have learned or are learning so they become more fluent and better at comprehending.

Transition sentence help please?We Answered:
The transition sentence needs to introduce both the fact that you will be discussing English in Japan and the perceived effect on Japanese culture. The most natural way to do this is to state it plainly, for instance:"In this paper I will be evaluating the ways in which the developing demand for English, and the evolving methods of teaching English, have been affecting Japanese culture."
If you are not comfortable with "I will" in an academic discourse, you can always depersonalize it to "This paper evaluates...".
The person who made the comments rightly challenges your use of the term "devalues". This term is heavily loaded and very subjective, so it is likely to lead to an unbalanced argument or even opinionated ranting. You would be on safer ground declaring that you intend to demonstrate the effects of learning English on Japanese culture, and once you have done that, permit yourself a short paragraph explaining why you feel that these effects are detrimental.

can a fin. officer @ I-10 Toyota Dealer add apprx. $7,000 in the buyer's contract w/out informing the buyer? We Answered:
I am with Jay on this one. The facts don't completely add up. How did you arrive at this $7000 "over charge". Are you looking at the amount financed, purchase price, or total of payments? Did your father purchase an extended warrant, protection package, VIN etching, LoJack, or any otherr add-ons? Was a car traded in? Did it have a loan against it?I find it a little hard to believe that the dealer arbitrarily added $7k to a contract, and a bank accepted it. Please provide more details.
Jay (the poster above me) is very knowledgable and I have seen some consistently good advice from him. I have been in the business for 15 yrs. Either of us will be happy to look this over and help if you want to contact us.

Should we get our 3rd grader help with English? We Answered:
I would not enroll her into a tutoring program. Her spelling and grammar sound very normal for a 3rd grader. One thing is to always praise her and say "that was very good....but do you know that "decmils" is spelled a little differently? You almost got it right though"
Then she wants to know of course how it is spelled and you tell her.
If her grade was a concern I would maybe consider tutoring. Speak to the teacher and see what she thinks. She has the comparison. Ask how your daughter ranks in comparison to her classmates.
