Reading And Comprehension Activities

Melinda Said:

Is learning (studying/reading) more productive in colder environments?

We Answered:

Sounds like an interesting topic to investigate. I have found that my students don't do as well during periods of cold or of heat.

Tyler Said:

Will I get into Exeter/Andover?

We Answered:

like everyone else, i believe you will get in. im applying too so good luck.

however, if you will have the interview soon, here are a few tips.
1)be nice--(people have had 99 percentile on the SSAT's and still can't get in. Why? The interviewers saw them as jerks.)
2) Formality(duh...)
3)professionallism

for improvement, try and be a captain of one of your extracurricular activities. the two phillips accademys are looking for leader ship. if on ur resume u didnt say captain even though u are, put it there. it will seem a lot more attractive.

i believe that andover is better, because there are many courses to choose from and no school uniforms.

wish u good luck:)

Urgent!!!!!?

We Answered:

I'd question the value of word searches and crosswords as reading comprehension activities. They have value, but I am not certain they address comprehension.

Here are a few sites that describe a variety of comprehension activities. Possibly something with sequencing might be appropriate if the students are younger. Kids often enjoy doing a time line of the events.

Best of luck with it.

any ideas for children in years 1-6 who need literacy help?

We Answered:

Write in sand, make letters in dough. Make cards with words and corresponding pictures and get them to match word to picture then make a sentence with the words.
Chinese whispers to make children listen carefully.
Group story each child gives a sentence to make a story then they have to repeat the story and discuss.
Writing patterns, make sure you use large sheets of paper and coloured crayons to make it interesting and fun

Tyrone Said:

Please help with a comprehension/reinforcement activity! 10 points best answer!?

We Answered:

As with any book geared at children of this age group, you as the teacher must determine what message the author is trying to convey, and work that angle to get the students to understand the "moral" of the story. Reinforcement is basically repetition until they get it. You can also try to relate to their worlds, their lives, their cultures to get the message across. Good luck.
