Reading Comprehension Exam

Elsie Said:

reading comprehension exam? HELPFUL TIPS WHILE READING???

We Answered:

The one thing you should do is read the questions first. You won't know the answers, but you'll know what you're looking for when you read the passage. Too many people waste time by reading the passage, reading the questions, and then reading the passage again.

English listening and reading comprehension exam tomorrow I'm nervious! "Its for a CNA program"?

We Answered:

Hai,

i did a similar exam years ago - IELTS. My strategy went like this and i got 7.5/9.

Listening - you get few minutes to read the questions before you listen. concentrate on the questions and read them properly. This would help you to 'expect' what you are going to listen and you can easily pick up what you want from what you are listening.

Reading - this can be tricky. there can be more than 1 passages. They are not going to be of equal toughness. So don't spent same time on all the passages. from the first reading (always do that) if it appears easy do that passage quickly and don't waste time on it for you need that saved time for the toughest passage. if there are three passages with a total time of 60 minutes you should ideally spent 10 for first 20 for second and 30 for last

Writing - you can't improve it overnight! You are going to do that great as i got a falavour of how you write from your question elaboration. Just try to make the sentences small. That is the best way to reduce grammar errors and score higher grade.

All the best, you are going to rock!!!! No doubt about it...

READING COMPREHENSION EXAM? TIPS ON COMPREHENDING BETTER?

We Answered:

Read the questions before you read the story/passage. That way you can have the key ideas in your mind already so that when you read the passage you kind of know what you're looking for or what to expect which might help you comprehend it better

How do i study for a reading comprehension, spelling and argument writing exam?

We Answered:

spelling is easy, just memorize the words you have to spell. however you can't exactly study writing and reading comprehension in the same way you can study other subjects... i would just suggest that you start reading more and make serious efforts to understand the material, analyze the text, make inferences, identify the writing style... after a while it will come naturally to you.

Tips on taking Reading/Comprehension exams?

We Answered:

The advice about checking out the questions and answers first is good. The reason is, you'll know what to look for in the reading. On the test there will be one question about the general theme or meaning of the section. As you read, concentrate on what the point of the section is all about. Don't read word for word, but scan the sentence to get the full meaning. Timed tests make me nervous, but at the end I usually have time left over. That's a good opportunity to go back and check the answers. Most questions call for factual answers which can actually be pointed out in the text. If you find the answer, actually TOUCH it with your finger. If you can't figure out an answer, leave it and come back to it later. The answer may sometimes be found in the later questions themselves! Good luck, I'm sure you'll do well.
