LSAT reading comprehension strategies?

We Answered:

I second that you should NOT read the questions first and then look for the answers in the passage -- that strategy will definitely kill too much time in an already time-accelerated section. I'm taking the LSAT in one week and I have found that the best technique that has worked for me is to READ actively, and write less. I read the passage in its entirety, circling only keywords (such as when the tone or viewpoint is changing, i.e. "however" and "some critics believe") that way you have outlined the basic structure of the passage for yourself and you've read the content as well. It makes it easier when you do go to answer questions to refer back to key points without having to search through a mess of pencil underlines/circles/notes everywhere. Also, reading actively the first time around instead of focusing on writing too many notes makes it so that you retain more information and can more easily answer the questions -- sometimes without even referring back to the passage. This has worked best for me and I am trying to improve upon it this week. Good luck if you are also taking it next weekend!

In reading comprehension strategies, what is meant by a self monitoring lesson?

We Answered:

It is a lesson activating the student's metacognitive capacities, in other words, his or her ability to watch or monitor how well they are understanding what they're reading, and to decide what they must do to correct any ack of understanding.

A lesson that does this usually gets the students to write notes to themselves, or, if they are very young, to stop and talk with a partner about what they are understanding so far.

What are some reading comprehension strategies?

We Answered:

There are so many strategies to help students better comprehend their reading. I use many, but these are just a few: ANTICIPATION GUIDES are typically used as a pre-reading strategy and help to engage students in thought and discussion about ideas and concepts that they will encounter in the text. I also have students use an INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK: This highly adaptable strategy encourages students to use a two-column note-taking strategy. In the right column, they take notes to synthesize essential ideas and information from a text, presentation, film etc.; in the left-hand column, they interact with the content in any way they choose (personal connections, illustrations, etc.). THINKALOUD: Skillful readers unconsciously use a range of strategies to make meaning from text. The think aloud strategy involves modeling these strategies by "thinking aloud" while reading and responding to a text. By making explicit for students what is implicit for more expert readers, it becomes possible for students develop and apply these strategies themselves.
Finally, I always have my students maintain a JOURNAL. Here they can ask questions, reflect, basically say what they really feel about the characters, the plot, setting, etc.

Teachers- Reading Comprehension Strategies for 3rd Graders?

We Answered:

i'm a student where english is my second language...

well first off, as a student, reading logs does not help... i mean a student can just put a random book, put minutes required, and have their parents sign...

my little brother is having trouble of reading comprehension too, i try to give him books and ask what the story is talking about but he always give me a bunch of random details...so i keep on giving him hints on answers i want to hear and eventually throughout the book, he catches on and is able to tell me what the book is talking about...

one thing i learned is to give him books that he think is funny so he will enjoy the book and want to understand it more...

Strategies to help 8 year old child improve reading comprehension.?

We Answered:

Its very good, through maps, icons, symbols, natural scene, animals sign etc having stories gives the child more information and becomes easy for them to understand and catch the situation sharply. Such illustrations enables the child to read it, solve it and get it instead to read the confused lengthy story which tires them. so short story with pictorial attracts more keep the child happy and interesting.
