Reading Comprehension Tips

Terri Said:

Do you have any tips on inproving reading comprehension/?

We Answered:

Comprehension is great, but I've always found it to be a corralary to enthusiasm for the thing itself. In the midst of teaching him to understand teach him to love it too.
What does he enjoy? Find books of that nature to instill an inclination towards reading while at the same time practicing his comprehension. We remember what we enjoy and any aversion towards books, or reading, etc will just get in the way as a sub concious resistance. Good luck!

Reading comprehension and speed reading tips?

We Answered:

Read more. The more you read, the more you will get used to it and eventually you should be able to read faster and understand more of what you are reading.

The people that I know who are strong in Reading Comprehension is because they read a lot when they were kids and still continue to do so.

If you are currently a high school student, I would suggest reading the New York Times to increase your Verbal Comprehension. =)

Study/ reading comprehension tips?

We Answered:

I'm a college student too. For me, I read slowly and cannot comprehend well in the past. Since reading occupies quite a lot of my time everyday, I decided to look for some course to improve it. Now I can comprehend much better and it really helps my study. So it is better to look for some course to improve your reading, it really helps.

I used an online course at that time. If you want to know more, you can see my another answer here:

Test taking / reading comprehension tips?

We Answered:

Seems like you are struggling! Look, the most important sections of any given paragraph are verbs and nouns (and every page is simply 3 or 4 paragraphs). So you should first find out which sections will be included in the test. Then you should get a highlighter, open the particular chapter(s) to the first page, scan the sentences, and as you are scanning (DO NOT READ COMPLETELY) highlight every verb and noun that you come across. Once that page is done, read it once quickly and move on to the next page. Good luck!
