Reading Comprehension Tutoring

Lewis Said:

need help...tutoring?

We Answered:

1. dont be so strict!
i tutored 2 and 3rd graders for 2 years and the one thing i learned is that if you are to pushy on them they begin to loose confidance in you. they are trusting you to teach them and giving them the right approch is the great way to start off. for example, if you are stuck on a problem dont give up on them and go on.
2.be understandable.
NEVER JUST DO THEIR WORK! id use to just take the grammer note book and circle all the answers for my girl and let her see what i did. it never worked. you must go step by step with your person and make THEM explain what they dont get and relate to their situation.let them try to see what they did wrong and give them time to think. dont be so agressive about them not understanding, try to see why they cant figure it out and explain.
3.go over work.
once the session is done go over all the work you have done and make her explain to you what to do. whenever my tutored, at the end my girls would always play teacher and i would pretend to be the student. this was prob the best stratigy to use because it gives them the oppertunity to explain it full out and understand what was taken in. it really works and i recommend it highly (as the student ask questions to see if they understood and try to see if they were uncomfortable or left out details. this means you were not clear on you explantion and you have to go over it agian.)
IT REALLY WORKS!

GOOD LUCK!
