If you are reading a book and you dont know what a bunch of the words mean you may not understand what the author is trying to tell you. If an english teacher gives you a list of words to learn before you read a book, she is trying to make sure you will understand the story. Especially if you have a test on it.

I can tell you one thing: If you don't have a strong English vocabulary, you WILL have a VERY hard time with reading comprehension because you won't know half of the words. And you will read slower because the words you never heard of will stump you pronounciation wise.

yeah lots of obscure words.... like the first guy said, memorize tons of vocab. i memo-ed 2000 lol. and it's better to know a few well than a bunch not-so-well.

yeahhhh it tests reading comprehension, but you can't understand the passage if you don't understand the words... so go memorize! lol

Um, I haven't taken it yet (March) but a senior recommended the Sat Prep book by Kaplan.
Kaplan SAT 2009 Comprehensive Program which should be at borders or barnes and noble.
