Standardized Test Reading Comprehension

Christian Said:

Reading Comprehension Exams?

We Answered:

Standardized tests prove mastery of specific skills; they also show achievement in comparison to other students of about the same age range.

No, it is NOT true that any person can pass a test if given enough time. And yes, standardized exams can be difficult EVEN IF time allotted is increased.

Reading comprehension tests are critical to diagnosing specific reading deficits; without correction, lack of comprehension can lead to illiteracy. They may also indicate a need for diagnostic testing to determine if their are specific learning disabilities or other problems inhibiting success for the student.

Nancy Said:

Can you help me with my son's graduation?

We Answered:

I'd say he definitely deserves a celebration! I'd send out invitations and include something like "since you've already been so generous, no gifts please -- just come and celebrate with us."

Audiobooks vs. Paper Books?

We Answered:

The thing I would say that is a con about Audiobooks is that they are easier to not pay attention to. It's a bit like listening to a teacher in class; at one moment you're following along fine, then something catches your eye, next thing you know you're lost. Plus you'll have to rewind that audiobook a great deal to make sure you heard everything correctly.

The paper book may take more time to read initially, but the extra effort helps memory. And you save re-reviewing the material.
