Information is below.

Jackie Said:

Is a business associates degree worthless?

We Answered:

I hesitate to use the word "worthless" here, because a business associate's degree will serve certain purposes. However, I don't think it will serve yours. The associate's degree is designed to prepare students for low-level jobs in business, where they'll be competing with BBAs and MBAs for advancement. It doesn't prepare students to strike out on their own as entrepreneurs.

Find out if your community has a Small Business Development Center. They have business advisors who can tell you more about establishing and running a successful business. After talking to them, you'll be in a better position to decide what your educational goal should be.

What can i do with an associates degree in business?

We Answered:

Not much you can do with it. Receptionist at a small business, perhaps. Retail sales jobs, but not business to business sales as that requires a bachelors. Insurance agents require a bachelors too. Odds are that you'll be applying for cashier and warehousing positions at big box retailers.

Kyle Said:

What jobs can I get with an Associates degree in Business administration?

We Answered:

You should definitely hold on and get a Bachelor's degree. While you can get some decent jobs with an associates degree you will get better job offers with a Bachelor's degree. With an associates you can get entry level jobs that may not pay a lot in the beginning but you work your way up. With a Bachelor's degree you can apply for better jobs suchs manager jobs which will pay more. Besides with the economy in such bad shape, you will be in competition with a lot more people who have higher degrees that just an associate.

Could I be commisioned in the Army with an Associates business degree?

We Answered:

You can! Army National Guard OCS requires an AAS as a pre-requisite to attend, but you will have to complete a BA/BS to be eligible for Captain. You'd probably have at least 4 yrs and not more than 7 yrs to complete your degree. What state are you in? I could probably put you in touch with someone in your area.

Sarah Said:

If I were going to get an Associates Degree in business?

We Answered:

Most community colleges offer one to two different degrees in business. At the community college I work at one business degree is an associate of science (which means that it transfers towards a bachelors). The other is an associates of applied science in business management. It does not transfer. So it will depend on whether or not you are looking to further your education beyond the community college level. Both are equally useful at the associate level, but neither will get you into a job beyond mid-career range.

I always suggest to my student to complete the degree that transfers. You may not be looking to get a bachelors degree now - but you never know what you might want to do later on.
