Automotive Engineering Degree

Josephine Said:

What the difference between a mechanical engineering degree and an automotive engineering degree?

We Answered:

a mechanical engineering is the mother of following branches in engineering
1 production
2 automobile/automotive
3 production plant
4 mechatronics
in mech you to study from the basic things such as strength of materials, machine drawing, mechanics of machines, automobile, thermal, power plant e.t.c. to more advanced sub like mechatronics...giving you the basic idea about the industry...in auto it is more specialized so that you have to learn only few
basic sub but more applied giving you more skills in that part.ind. but the thing is that you dont have much versatile oppurtunity in the industry and you are confined to a particular area...unlike mech which has a broad spectrum...then about toughness depends on you ,if you are highly insp in aut. you will find it simpler and vice versa

Jenny Said:

what are some schools in georgia which offer a degree in automotive engineering?

We Answered:

There are no 4yr degrees in Automotive Engineering in Georgia.

There are 4yr degree in Automotive Technology in several schools outside Georgia.

Ferris State, MI (BSET)
Minnesota State, Mankato (BSET)
Indiana State (BSIT)
Pennsylvania College or Technology (BSIT)

Technology is sort of half-way between Engineering and Mechanic. ABET-accredited degrees are closer to Engineering Design. NAIT-accredited degrees are closer to Auto shop Mechanics and Management.

Any of the schools will give you a solid education.

Kenneth Said:

Is it possible to come out of college with a degree in Automotive Engineering and get a job in Japan?

We Answered:

In a manner of speaking, yes. You could get a job as an assistant English teach or an Eikaiwa teacher with any degree, as long is it's a 4-year degree. However, if you want to work at pretty much any other job in Japan...that's a bit harder. Most Japanese companies will hire Japanese first and foreigners second (if at all), and in most cases if you're a foreigner trying to get hired by a Japanese company you need to be fluent in Japan AND have something to offer that your Japanese competitors don't have. And you will still need at least a 4-year degree in your field OR ten years of experience in your field OR to be married to a Japanese citizen or someone who has a valid work visa to be able to work legally in Japan.

Basically, if that's what you want to do it's not a bad thing to aim for, but given how tough it is you should definitely have some other plans in mind in case this doesn't work out.
