Biomedical Science Degree

Diana Said:

What else can I do with a Biomedical Science degree?

We Answered:

I'm a medical/technical writer for biotech and pharmaceutical companies. If I had your degree and experience I'd make twice as much. I already earn quite a lot. Perhaps you should look into it.

Catherine Said:

What career would a biomedical science degree lead to?

We Answered:

You have lots of choices. You can become a biomedical scientist in a hospital, naturally.

But, you can go into medical research like cancer research, stem cell work, genetic work (manipulation of genetic material in bacteria/ mice for example to see which genes perform specific functions), you can be involved in creating new drugs (pharmacology), research into the function of different parts of the brain... the list goes on!

Of course you can also use it as a generic degree and it will be well looked upon. But it can also be used as a stepping-stone
into a medical or dental career.

Hope this helps.

Sylvia Said:

Can Biomedical Science degree eventually lead into a Medicine degree?

We Answered:

You could do yes; Some universities offer a postgraduate entry route into medicine, some medical schools don't mind what discipline your first degree was in, but some stipulate that your first degree has to be in a health/science related subject.

If you want to study medicine, then study medicine- don't study other courses with the sole purpose of using them as a spring board into medicine because you think medicine is too hard and competitive to get into.
It IS hard and competitive but thats medicine, not just when you apply, but throughout your career too. If you want to study medicine then fight for it and apply.

I spent the last few years thinking, "oh it's too hard" It's not- providing you want to study medicine for the right reasons.
