Roland Said:

What qualifications, would a High School Business Studies teacher, in the UK, put on their CV?

We Answered:

A normal pattern on a CV would be to have a section called Education. It would include the place of learning as well as the qualifications gained. You'd normally put GCSE (maths and English GCSE are needed for all teaching jobs, and Science/ICT for some)
You'd then put A Level (or equivalent).. either under the same school (if it has a sixth form) or as a new place of learning... Most teachers will have 3 or 4 A Levels.
You'd then put the place where the degree was gained...
If the Teaching qualification was gained independently of the degree that would go on... as well as any Masters Degrees or other higher qualifications.

So,

St Fred's High School, Bolton (1990-1996)
Qualifications Gained: GCSE Maths (B), English Language (B), History (A)...etc
Ambridge Sixth Form College, Hardwick (1996-8)
Qualifications Gained: A Level - Economics (B)...etc
The University of Puddleduck (1998-2001)
Qualifications Gained: BA(Hons) class 2:2 in Economics With Business Studies
The University of Smithfield (2001-2)
Qualifications Gained: MA in Business Studies
The University of Puddleduck (2002-3)
Qualifications Gained: PGCE in Secondary School teaching (Business Studies and Economics)

You could do a number of things

1. create a website that gives photo shop or flash tutorials - make money from advertising revenue on the site.

2. create and sell - backgrounds, graphics, flash animations etc... - get paid from people buying the graphics 100% profit.

3. offer your services through freelance websites like RentAcoder, elance - get paid per job.

4. create and sell a How-to DVD, for flash or photo shop etc... very high profits, sell the DVD online, in magazines offline etc...

5. create a "digital media" blog and just discuss digital media in general also offer tips and tricks - you can make money from advertising revenue and affiliate commissions on the blog.

6. Do a combination of whats listed above

Can anyone help with ideas for starting my own business, online or otherwise?

We Answered:

Here are some small business enterprises to consider:

1. Providing a private tutoring service ranging from music lessons, English writing and reading lessons: to training seniors on how to operate a particular computer;

2. Offering to supervise or monitor services to senior citizens especially those wanting someone to take them on errands, driving on long trips, watch and clean up homes left behind by seniors who have been relocated to assisted living quarters;

3. Becoming a regional apartment manager servicing several properties while traveling to and fro to collect monthly rents and service tenant complaints;

4. Leasing a van equipped with paper shredding machinery and go into high-income areas offering to shred their highly secretive personal papers or even allow them to do so in the privacy of their own home or office;

5. Leasing high-pressure steam cleaning equipment which can be used to remove chewing gum in front of store fronts and apartment houses and charge an appropriate hourly fee;

6. Acquiring a personal fiduciary bond up to $100,000 which will allow you to sell your services as a personal property document specialist which involves photographing and cataloging all kinds of personal property which are subject to insurance coverage; salvaging of family photo albums, etc.

Good luck!
