Richard Said:

What Information Technology or Computer Science degrees / certificates would be most beneficial?

We Answered:

right now programming is where all the jobs are, try going for that.

Betty Said:

What is the job market like for people with Computer Science Bachelor Degrees?

We Answered:

It's decent, but not as good as it was five or ten years ago. Be sure to do an internship - that can mean a lot. And specialize in some area that is in heavy demand - security, networks, and web design/development for example. Keep an eye on the job market while you're in school as to what areas are in high demand, and make sure you have credentials in those areas.

And grades will be important when you are looking for your first job out of school, so work hard and keep them up.

Good luck.

What is the job market like for computer science degrees?

We Answered:

Even though programming and help desk support has been outsourced, other parts of the computer field are still growing strong since you still have to do a number of computer tasks onsite (unless you're in an area saturated with programmers, where competition for computer jobs is still intense). Here's what the US Dept of Labor's Occupational Career Handbook has to say about computer systems design:

The computer systems design and related services industry grew dramatically throughout the 1990s, as employment more than doubled. And despite recent job losses in certain sectors, this remains one of the 25 fastest growing industries in the Nation. Wage-and-salary employment is expected to grow 40 percent by the year 2014, compared with only 14 percent growth projected for the entire economy.

So what kinds of computer careers are hot:
-The demand for networking and the need to integrate new hardware, software, and communications technologies will drive the demand for consulting and integration.
-A need for more customized applications development and for support and services to assist users will drive demand for applications development and facilities support services.
-And, as more individuals and organizations conduct business electronically, the importance of maintaining system and network security will increase.

Here's the US Dept of Labor's description of the growth of the computer field, descriptions of the computer jobs that are growing, and computer job outlook and wages:

Good luck!

What degrees have a better job outlook :Computer Science, Accounting, or Electrical Engineering?

We Answered:

These are all very diffrent and you need to look at what your desired end goal is. what kind of job do you want.

You will be able to find a job in all of these. EE will pay more in the beinging and accounting will pay the least at first.

Thay all have potential to make good money down the road if you keep growing your skills and climb the corporate ladder.

If you are thinking IT consider Management Information Systems.

Or you could get the CS degree but add additonal things to your resume like by reading books on networks, unix, windows server, security and getting ceritified in these subjects.

Then your outlook would be very good to find a job. Technology will be one of the fast growing areas for the next 30 years. You can not go wrong with that. but trying to get a job as a programmer could get hard as more and more jobs are going to India.

Beatrice Said:

Computer science and mathematics degrees?

We Answered:

i dont think so....if you didnt graduate from the first school with a BS in CS and transfere to another school, you could just add the math major to it and just graduate with 2 majors. but dont think that you can graduate from 1 school then just take to course class to have a second BS from a different school.
But once again i am not positive about this...I wuld suggest you call the school and ask if you can do. That wuld be somthing good to do if its possible, cause I have a CS degree myselft, so couldnt easly add engineering, math cause they kinda all go together.
Good luck..let me know what u find out

How does future look for computer engineers or people with computer science degrees?

We Answered:

There's always a demand for people with computer science skills but you can acquire these with certificates and don't necessarily need a 4 yr degree. In the US you would probably work for a large company that has a network and need for business information system. To become a psychiatrist you're going to invest a huge amount of time and $ in a medical degree and had better LOVE it. I suggest you go with your passion, recognizing that our life's passion can be everyday drudgery in the real world.
