Criminal Justice Degree Online

Carolyn Said:

Can u get a criminal justice degree online?

We Answered:

yes:

http://www.westwoodonline.edu/degree/cri…

and I'm sure there's others.

Edit: in respose to the below poster's comments, I have no experiance with westwood's criminal justice program. I just remembered they had it when I saw the question. I do agree with them, ask around, but with the limitations you mentioned, a physical campus sounds like it will be too dificult for you.

Now they mentioned "for profit schools" and I honestly have no idea what they mean since every university makes a profit (well, except the ones about to close), but there are many schools that offer online courses, though each school will be differnt in what courses can be taken online and how much of the degree can be done through that method.

In any case, I suppose a good place to start would be saying what state you are in and then query each university with criminal justice degrees if they offer online courses. Just be prepaired to hear that most schools only offer the basic courses online.

Gene Said:

Anyone know of a good, accredited, criminal justice online degree?

We Answered:

Colorado Technical University Online offers a variety of criminal justice degrees online. It's the online outlet of a university based near Colorado Springs (in other words, a traditional brick-and-mortar school).

Online degrees work about the same as a regular degree, except you don't have to schlep across campus with books. You do readings, watch lectures, do chats with other students and do group projects in addition to writing papers. CTU Online offers a "tour" of their virtual campus. I put the link in my resources box below.

Good luck!

What is the advantage of studying criminal justice online degree?

We Answered:

None, except you get to sleep-in longer.

Online or on-campus, "Criminal Justice" graduates can look forward to a career as Mall Cops.

Alex Said:

does it matter if u get the criminal justice degree online or a community college?

We Answered:

You don't need a degree to be part of CBP, but it's great that you're thinking that way. Anything to better prepare yourself and make yourself a better candidate. What matters amongst degrees are the accrediations, meaning they have to be REGIONALLY and not NATIONALLY accredited. What does this mean? With regional accreditation, you can take units and credits and take them up to another regionally acredited college - like going from community college and then transferring to a university or a university to graduate school. Most employers will take degrees from nationally accredited schools, but prepare to get some scrutiny due to the amount of shady companies that sell fake degrees. They're known as "degree mills"; also, most regionally accredited schools will not honor coursework done at nationally accredited schools. So if you went and spent 40k to get a BS/BA degree at ITT or Devry, you wouldn't be able to get credit at another university if you were planning on trying to get your MS/MA. Speak to someone in recruiting at CBP and see what their policy is on the school you're attending or are planning to attend. I take online classes at the local university, and it doesn't show any difference on transcipts, it is the same if I went on campus or online.
