Distance Learning Psychology Degree

Bernard Said:

PLEASE HELP- Law or Psychology degree?

We Answered:

i would think law because psychology is a lot more scientific and mathematical whereas law focuses more on language and essay writing and would be better for journalism in the future, plus it's way more exciting! good luck!

Distance Learning...?

We Answered:

I can answer from both sides of the fence, as I am a distance learning tutor, and did a master's degree by distance learning myself.
I found it a real struggle, because the VLE software was not robust enough and was often off line, the tutors did not place materials and links on line often enough, many of the contacts I was given never answered emails, and the on-line referencing libraries either did not work at all, or were no better than google scholar!
On top of this, you have to be very well disciplined to work on your own.
As a tutor, I try an ensure my students have a better experience than I did! I try and test and update the on-line materials regularly. But the onus is on the student to be pro-active and contact me with any problems and questions.

Can anyone tell me if ICS distance learning degree courses are any good ?

We Answered:

Before I started my undergraduate degree at a local university, I did a few ICS courses. When I applied to the university, I asked if my credits from ICS would transfer. They said "no ... they don't accept credits from any correspondence schools". Take that for what it's worth.

Note, schools like ICS shouldn't be confused with traditional brick and mortar schools that happen to also deliver the same on-campus classes via a distance learning format. At these schools, there's no difference between the on-campus and the distance learning versions and credits earned in them would surely be transferable. You might want to research traditional schools that offer distance learning courses; a lot of them do that now. Try the DANTES catalog for starters: http://www.dantescatalogs.com/

Has anyone here done a distance-learning master's degree?

We Answered:

If you want a job in academia, this is not the way to go, but for industry, it serves just fine.
