Hazel Said:
Can i get a good salary education and experience with an Emergency and Disaster management degree? We Answered:
Finish an associates at a community college in criminal justice or maybe something like technological sciences (to increase your scope) and then transfer to a 4- year that offers a bachelor's degree in emergency management. I know of one 4-yr by me that offers the emergency mgnt. degree.Kyle Said:
What can i do with a degree in Emergency Services Management and how much does it make year?We Answered:
The amount you make a year varies by agency, experience, etc. I imagine you could work either in the general areas of emergency services (for routine emerencies to be resolved locally) or emergency management (for disasters requiring outside help). In emergency services you would help coordinate police, fire, and/or ambulance services; in emergency management you help prepare and respond to disasters. Almost all towns and cities have emergency management directors, though most (especially in smaller towns) are unpaid positions. All states have emergency management agencies; the federal government also has a federal emergency management agency, FEMA. You may also be able to find work at any agency that provides humanitarian aid in disasters (or violent conflicts), such as the Red Cross.Erik Said:

Emergency Management degree?We Answered:
Whilst there are many Emergency Management programs out there, many are aligned more towards professional development rather than entry into the field. If you're from the US check out this website from FEMA which lists a bunch of colleges offering programs: http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/edu/coll…
However there's many different ways to get into emergency management. There's the traditional way of rising up through one of the services (police, fire and rescue, paramedics or the military). Though more recently there have been more opportunities for people of wide ranging backgrounds. Because emergency management is such an inter-disciplinary discipline there are many fields that suit it. For example in my team we have someone with a degree in economics, civil engineering, environmental science and geographic information systems (GIS) and I have a physics degree. The skills that are important for emergency management are general skills such as project management, oral and written communication, teamwork, networking, research and problem solving that are learnt in many university degrees.
You might like to make contact with emergency management professionals in your local municipality or state, they can give you excellent advice on what educational opportunities exist and other ways to gain skills and experience. There are many volunteer opportunities in emergency management which could prove invaluable in finding a job (as was the case for myself).
Hope this helps and good luck!

What kind of jobs can a nurse get with an emergency and disaster management degree? We Answered:
Never actually put those two things together, but I am also a nurse, formerly ER and now business side of nursing, and it sounds like an awesome set of experience.I found a specialty in business that fit my combination of education. I think the other person is right that a charge nurse in the ER is probably what you are looking at, with possibility of being added to every disaster preparedness class it offers.
Or you could check out the business/insurance side and you might find a fit. My qualifications and experience guided me into a field where I have better hours (work and take vacation when I want), money (around 100k/yr), and still make a difference! Possibly teaching courses for health plans, physician groups, hospitals or nursing schools could be an option. You could consider becoming a consultant and market yourself that way either directly or through a TPA (third party administrator). I guess it depends on whether you want the hands on or teaching. I personally got tired of the long hours, fractional compensation, and the physical/emotional toll floor nursing took.
Don't misunderstand me, we need hospital nurses and we need more. Not every nurse can work on the corporate side though. You sound has though you have a great background and might be a suggestion worth exploring.
Good luck!
