Is a degree in Events Management/Hospitality worth it?We Answered:
Hello! There are jobs in event management and conference planning. The conference and meeting industry has been growing, but with the economic downturn....there are less positions. As with all entry level positions, pay is low and hours are long. The event management business is very fast-paced and non-stop. You'll do a lot of traveling and must learn how to think on your feet! But it is incredibly. There are jobs running events and conferences not only in the hotel sector but also in event management or conference planning companies. It really is a big business. In the US, there are a lot of opportunities in Florida (specifically Orlando), Chicago, Washington D.C., NYC. Additionally, there are public sector jobs in convention or conference bureaus of cities.
Finally, I highly recommend pursing your Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Certificate upon earning your BS/BA degree. You'll need to work in the industry for awhile before you can take the test. The CMP is recognized world wide. The link is below. Good Luck!

I want to get my degree in hotel management or events planning, what's the best course to pursue this?We Answered:
Right after high school, i was extremely lucky that my parents sent me the to one of the best Hotel & Restaurant Management Schools in Switzerland (Les Roches). They have a range of programs from a 3-year Diploma, Post-Grad degree (condensed in a year) and other options. The experience that i got from this school is amazing, since they concentrate on not only academics but hands-on experience on campus. You also get to meet students from all over the world and learn different cultures and languages. Most 5-Star properties such at the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Hyatt, etc, hire direct from the school. If you have the luxury of time and maybe get a student loan, this is the best option i can suggest. However, since that Degree, i had continued to further my education at the University of Nevada Las Vegas to pursue a concentration in Convention and Special Events Management. Where else can you find tons of jobs in this industry but Las Vegas! I now hold a management position for a Destination Management Company handling Large corporate events, parties, etc. This is a fun and dynamic industry and here in Vegas, we never run out of creative options to offer our clients! Good luck to your future endeavors!
