Forensic Psychology Degree

Dianne Said:

What kind of careers can you get into with a degree in forensic psychology?

We Answered:

everybody think of dead bodies. untrue. when in law enforcement u can simulate such situations, do scenario planning, etc so u hardly touch the dead bodies. tts the purview of the pathologists. yours is more psychology. so theres lots of challenges and fun. - there was a bbc series on this

Sally Said:

Will a degree in forensic psychology help me get into the FBI?

We Answered:

You'd have to go in as diversified which means you don't have the degree or background that they're REALLY looking for. It doesn't mean you won't get hired it just means that you have 0-2% chance of getting hired. Psychology is better suited for police work than the FBI. The Bureau is mostly a criminal intelligence agency that receives and analyzes information and bases their investigations on them as opposed to the police who respond to crimes and enforce the laws at hand. You really don't need to know the psyche of an individual whose embezzling millions of dollars from a company or extorting money from someone else.

What Jobs can i get with a Forensic Psychology Degree?

We Answered:

forensic psychology obviously

i just did psychology as a BSc and have found it easy to get a job because it is science based.... lots of spss, maths and other crap.

im a material scheduler for a dairy company..... not exactly setting the world alight but after 2 years i'm on 26k plus benefits, im 24 now

because there are so many graduates you really have to wow them at the interview, i travelled around india and asia for a year after uni, well i worked as a cash in hand labourer on a building site for 10 months first and then went

i turned up to the interview on a motorcycle (crash helmet in hand) suited and booted and luckily she was a woman who had been travelling and liked bikes so we had alot to talk about

i also took a mensa test with a verifiable score on my CV of 127

Armando Said:

What college would be good for a criminology/forensic psychology degree, but also a music minor?

We Answered:

Pitzer college would probably suit:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/30/educat…
Acceptance rate: 40 percent. Pitzer was founded in 1963 as a women’s college and, now coed, embraces its roots in that progressive decade: students enjoy broad academic freedom, and can build their own programs and partake in independent study. Pitzer is a member of the Claremont consortium — Scripps (all women), Harvey Mudd (math and sciences), two graduate schools (Keck and Claremont) and, of course, Pomona and Claremont McKenna. Consortium students are encouraged to take classes at member colleges, expanding resources and exposing them to a variety of high-powered professors. Campuses adjoin, with most buildings just a 15- to 20-minute walk away. Pitzer has a reputation for a more relaxed environment than the other colleges; some say that’s because classes are easier; others say students are not as type A. SAT’s are optional, too. Citing a cultural bias to the exam and a desire to improve its ethnic mix, Pitzer waives scores for high-performing students.

Take music at Pitzer but your psych subejcts at Harvey Mudd if you feel that are better than what Pitzer offers.

Thanks
Bill
