Foundation Degree In Early Years

Irene Said:

Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies...?

We Answered:

I know a few people who have done this and have then gone on to do a 3 year degree.

A foundation degree, as the other lady who answered said, isn't an actual degree, it's just something to get you into university.

There isn't a lot more work than the NVQ involved, obviously it is a lot more complex, but well worth doing.

Frederick Said:

hello ! anyone doing/did a foundation degree in (early years studies ?)?

We Answered:

I have the equivalent to a Masters Degree in Montessori and Special Education. I left it too late, my youngest is now eighteen, and don't have the energy any more. Do it and just educate children. As difficult as it is, you have the qualification and so have a career in mind. I wish you the best of luck and see no reason why you can't do what you what you want to do.

Pamela Said:

I have a Foundation Degree in Early Years, am I qualified to be a Higher Level Teaching Assistant?

We Answered:

You might have enough, but its impossible for anyone to answer this correctly for you, as each educational institute and/or local council has different requirements for this job.

One good thing though is that it often possible to get a teaching assistant job and study & earn the necesary qualifications whilst working.

Good luck :)

If you have studied or are currently studying The Foundation Degree in Early Years?

We Answered:

Hi, I am currently studying in year two and some books that are extremely useful are "Safeguarding children & young people - Jennie Lindon and also "Advanced early years:for foundation degrees and levels 4/5 it's available in 1st and 2nd edition but I would recommend getting the 2nd edition as the policies on safeguarding have been updated.
Both of them are available on amazon, they're a little expensive but will really help!

Good luck with your degree!

Linda Said:

Can you get student loans/grants for degree level course after you have completed a Foundation Degree?

We Answered:

On 7 September 2007, John Denham, The Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, announced that from 2008/09, funding would no longer be provided to students from England and Northern Ireland who study for a qualification that is equivalent to, or lower than, a qualification they already hold. Certain courses will be exempt from this policy such as teaching, nursing and social work.

You are currently studying a foundation degree, if you go on to study a full degree then yes you be entitled to loans/grants, as its not equivalent or lower and is also in the exempt group. GL
