Home Study Degree

Tammy Said:

Can I get a Bachelors degree online by home study .???????? (psychiatry)?

We Answered:

you can complete the degree in its entirety online, but it would be very difficult to one, complete all the courses and two, to find a program that would accept a completely online degree. I am not saying it isn't possible just very difficult. Many of the science courses have take home labs that can be used, but they are often not nearly as educational as ones you would use at a real school. You may find it easier to complete the majority of the courses online and then take the lab science courses at a real school. Good Luck.

I have seen this done by someone applying to med school, but they scored very high on the MCAT.

Is it possble to study part of an RN degree from home?

We Answered:

Some uni's offer part-time nursing degrees that take 4 years rather than 3, so that might be useful for you. If you have a look at the Ucas site you can search for nursing & see which uni's offer part-time. You don't say which branch you're interested in so I couldn't search for you.

Placements are an integral part of your training from year one right the way through. Some uni's do a block of theory/lecture time in uni for a certain amount of weeks followed by a block on placement. At the Uni where I will be going in Sept, it's 2 days a week in uni, 2 days a week on placement & one day a week private study. There aren't any uni's where first years focus only on theory before starting placements in the second year.

I understand you're keen to get on with your degree but perhaps it's not the right time right now? A nursing degree is pretty demanding & you need to be able to fully commit to it. But perhaps your family issues may be sorted by this time next year so it would probably be a good idea to apply now for the Sept 10 intake. You could always defer if need be.

How much study is involved in a computer science degree?

We Answered:

I hope you love programming because they do a lot of programming and its really time consuming learning codes so hopefully your only taking like 12 units a semester or your really into this stuff or else you will have some difficulties.

How does P/T social work degree study work? (UK)?

We Answered:

Hiya,
Good for you!
Have you looked into the Open University?
I am beginning a degree with them in Childhood and Youth studies next month, so I've researched into them quite a bit, and I've contacted various people (postgraduate courses at uni and employers) who state that a degree with the Open University is just as recognized by them as a degree with any regular university in the country. I don't know about the GSCC but I imagine it would be the same with them, it would be worth checking to find out?
I have just looked and they offer an undergraduate degree in Social Work, here is the link to it:
http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergradua…
Good luck! :-)

Edit: Can I just ask out of interest... do you already hold qualifications, and if not how did you manage to get a job within the social work field? I have looked at a few degrees like this when deciding what to study, that state you must already be working within the field to be able to study it (luckily that's not the case for the degree I'm doing!), and I always wondered how anybody would be able to get a job in a field such as this without the degree in the first place!?

Edit: Oh really, that sucks! Sorry I couldn't be of any more help to you. The only other thing I can think of is that you talk to a careers advisor... if you're under 24 or 25 I think you can go to Connexions for free, I went for an appointment with them a few years ago and they were very helpful, the woman I spoke to didn't know all the answers to my questions but she knew the people to ring and did it there and then while I was there. If you're over that age, I'm not sure what there is but I am sure there are other careers advisory services that cater for adults, whether they'd be free or not is anyone's guess!

Good luck again, I really hope you manage to find something!
