Human Resources Degree
Joy Said:
I want to be a Probation officer. Can I do it w/ a Human Resources degree? We Answered:
Background qualifications for probation officers and correctional treatment specialists vary by State, but a bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field is usually required. Some employers require previous experience or a master’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field.Human resources would not quailfy as a related field.

What jobs are available with a Human Resources Management Degree right after graduation? We Answered:
I've been working in HR for about 20 years. HR is a great field, but right now, it's pretty flooded, so it's tough to break in. With a BA in HR, you would start as entry level management, but there's a large administrative component to it. Most people think that HR is mostly dealing with people, while in most cases, it's less than half of the job. A lot of time is spent pushing paper or processing information (they never seem to tell you that in school). While you're in school, try to get a part time/summer job or internship in an HR department, even in the school. If you're good, you can move up, but a lot will depend on the type of organization that you work for and how well they do in this economy. Don't go get a master's degree in the field until you've worked in it for a while and are sure that you like it. A master's degree in another field can be just as useful (management, finance, industrial psychology, etc.) and can give you more flexibility. Good luck! For more info on the field, go to www.shrm.org

What kind of communtiy service will best support a human resources degree? We Answered:
Volunteering with an organization that provides crisis counseling -- women at a domestic violence shelter, victims of crime, people that call a hotline, etc. Some of your work in HR management will be working with employees who are in distress, and having this kind of volunteering experience will prepare you for those situations. It will also look good on your resume.Volunteering with an organization that involves a large number of volunteers, helping the organization to screen candidates, orient new volunteers, support the volunteers, etc. This will give you experience that will mirror what you do as an HR manager, except you will be working with volunteers (unpaid) rather than employees (paid).

Will my human resources degree earned in France transfer to the US?We Answered:
Transfer in what sense? Your degree will be recognized as a Masters regardless of where you are. If you intend on using the degree earned in France as a stepping stone to another school in the US, then it may be trickier. If you just intend to come back to the states to work - then there's no problem. You'll still be recognized as having a Master's degree.
