Human Services Degree
Jeanne Said:
!!What is better a Human Services degree of a Social Worker? We Answered:
Human services refer to local government functions for a variety of things including childcare, elderly care, public health protection, women/children protection, homelessness, library, and related areas. It is usually a management position for servicing the needs of the society in these areas. People in these positions would plan, manage, allocate resources to these services. It is generally at a level about that of individuals.Social work is more at the level of individuals because it is case oriented. Social workers would need to know the methods to assist people including psychological, support infrastructure, etc. Here you have to decide what exactly do you prefer more--managing services or work with individuals. If it is to manage how to service people, then it would be human services. If it is to work with and care for individual people, then it would be social work. Social work is a professional degree, whereas human services is more a management degree.
Hope this helps.

What can do with a Human Services degree? We Answered:
The human services field does tend to have a high burn-out rate as with nursing. It's common to have second thoughts about schooling. Perhaps if almost done the requirements for the degree, take other courses geared towards working in an office environment such as microsoft word, excel, powerpoint and others (perhaps MOUS/microsoft office specialist certification) to gain marketability skills. For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'social and human service assistant', 'recreation workers' (perhaps for activities assistant job), 'administrative assistants and secretaries' or such.
If deciding on additional vo-tech training, please do consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) as opposed to the private $$ schools :)
Please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, us career, stratford career, capella, university of phoenix and others: http://www.capellauniversitysucks.us
http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

Getting a job in Business with a Psychology and Human Services degree in Chicago.?We Answered:
Yes. A good friend of mine graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and although her first job out of college was as a bank teller (which doesn't require a degree), about a year later she landed a corporate job with a health insurance company. So yes, it's possible - plenty of psychology students go into the business field. I'm not sure about finance though....that field seems pretty particular, but I could easily be wrong about that. I would suggest you take some business classes while you're still in college - finance, accounting, marketing, for instance, to give you an edge. Also, if you've got space in your class schedule for the next two years or if you can get an advisor to help you map out your classes, you might be able to get a business minor. Or, since you're pretty sure you want to go into business, check the classes you'll need for graduation if you change your major to business or double majoring in business and psychology and dropping the human services major. Good luck.

Should I just finish my Human Services degree and then get a BA in Early Childhood? We Answered:
I would finish the human service degree, just in case you don't want to work in a pre-school or daycare later on down the road. Maybe when you get out you won't be able to work at either of those places but you could use that human service degree for other jobs.Joel Said:
