International Relations Degree

Arlene Said:

What sort of career with an International relations degree?

We Answered:

Hello
The careers service in any prospective university would be a useful first contact point, as information regarding outcomes for previous international relations graduates should be available there. For a list of course providers (and contact details), see the UCAS website: http://ucas.com/students/coursesearch/).

You could also try the Prospects website - select international relations at http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/… for detailed information under various headings including job options, career areas and case studies. Then select ‘job options’ for a list of jobs directly related to your degree and a list of jobs where your degree would be useful. It’s also worth having a look at 'contacts and resources' for a list of relevant professional bodies that may have further information.

An International Studies degree is also available through supported open learning with The Open University. For details, see http://www.open.ac.uk/ and http://www.open.ac.uk/you/ (information relevant to the increasing number of young students at the OU). Remember that you can apply to The OU alongside UCAS, effectively giving you extra choices.

Do allow some time for this research as you may see other links worth following up. I hope this answers your question and wish you every success in your future study and career planning.

Jimmie Said:

Could I work in California if I had an International Relations degree?

We Answered:

I would think so.

A lot will depend on your particular coursework, job experience and personal interest.

Here are a couple of graduate programs in International Relations/Studies which indicate the potential career options for this major.

I would encourage you to learn more about your career options by exploring other college sites. If you already attend college then pay a visit to your campus career center (or career center website). Speak with graduates of this type of program and find out what they are doing.

The About.com career planning section provides a nice overview:

Lastly, don't forget to use your local public and college libraries as a resource. You don't necessarily have to go there in person - look at the library website(s) and chat with a librarian.

Velma Said:

How much does an international relations degree study the future of the world?

We Answered:

I think that a major in political and/or economic geography or International Development would be good for you. International Relations can be very narrow and involves a lot of past and current US policy and its effects. It's not really "future" oriented.

what can i do with an International Relations degree?

We Answered:

why are you taking that course if you don't know what will become of you once you graduate?
take engineering or chemistry or any other science courses. worse, you can take law. at least it is a bit prestigious than international relations degree. or maybe become a cop - there you can serve your fellow human being by protecting them from bad characters. worse comes to worse you'll end up working for walmart - where not even high school graduate becomes a supervisor. don't waste your mom and dad's hard earned money and don't waste loan that will be granted to you that you have to pay for when you get a job if you will get a job. and most importantly, don't waste yourself. that course is very stagnant and not refutable. better take business course maybe you can learn the good tactics of selling.
whew!

What can I do with an international relations degree?

We Answered:

I'm planning to major in international relations too! Some things I researched are some of the United States embassies both domestically and internationally. Another, if you're really interested in traveling is to become a Foreign Service Officer. Type it in and you should have a suggestion for their website. Some other goals are the U.N and European Union. I hope this helps!
